App freezing after Windows update

Hello, After a windows update last night the app is freezing completely. I've attached a screenshot of problem details. Your help would be much appreciated please. CPU useage was at 0% in task manager when frozen Thank you Date Time Of Last Edit: 2026-09-10 16:57:03

If you just run Sierra Chart are you having the same issue? If you start in Safe Mode do you have the same issue? Yes, I have just been running Sierra. I've opened today and loads fine, but as soon as click into a window it greys out and is 'not responding'. I'm running this in safe mode. I've not done anything different. Does the screenshot tell you anything?

Freezing is often caused by a RAM problem. Consider downloading and running MemTest86+ (www.memtest.org) and run it overnight because it can take several hours.

Resending the original problem details screenshot I'm very keen to get this resolved asap please. Can you confirm anything from the screenshot or the windows update having any bearing on this? Then I'll try the overnight RAM test. PC specs are: Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 9 285K (3.70 GHz) 64.0 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (8 GB)

When you test the RAM it's best to test each stick one at a time. If you've got 64MB you'll have either 2 sticks or 4. Shut down your PC, remove all the RAM sticks apart from one, re-boot to make sure the PC boots OK and then run the MemTest. When finished the MemTest software will either tell you the RAM stick is fine, or bad. Assume it's OK. Shut down the PC, remove the stick and then repeat - install the next stick, reboot to check everything works, then run the memtest on that new stick. Repeat till all RAM sticks have been given a clean bill of health. If you were to run all sticks at the same time (64GB) the test can run a long long time. Doing each stick individually saves time (maybe) but it's easier to highlight certain RAM sticks if say one out of 4 is bad. PC problems are normally a process of elimination, so by testing RAM you can be sure the problem is or is not RAM, so getting nearer to the actual problem. PS. Also check on your PCs heat in relation to the chip. You want the chip to be in the 40-70 degree range. Higher than 80 can cause some problems re stability. I use the free CoreTemp software, puts the temp, RAM usage and Load right in your lower right taskbar.

WHAT DOES THE REPORT TELL YOU? (6th ask, no answer yet) COULD IT BE RELATED TO THE WINDOWS UPDATE? I need to know the answer to this please before I attempt to take my pc apart! Other RAM hungry programs are running fine fyi

WHAT DOES THE REPORT TELL YOU? (6th ask, no answer yet) It tells us, that the operating system is detecting that Sierra Chart is freezing but the reason is unknown. So it is not really helpful to us. It is of little significance. The first thing we want you to do is to go to the folder Sierra Chart is installed to on your computer: C:\SierraChart\ Make sure Sierra Chart is not running. There is a folder in there named TradeActivityLogs. Rename this folder to TradeActivityLogs_backup Follow the instructions here: Resetting Sierra Chart to a Default State / Restoring Backup Global Configuration File: Resetting Sierra Chart to a Default State Only rename this file and no others: Sierra4.config Start Sierra Chart again. Enable this option: Sierra Chart - Software Login Instructions: Disabling Automatically Opening Files on Startup And only open one new chart through File >> New/Open Intraday Chart. Do you notice a problem with freezing? This is not our experience: Freezing is often caused by a RAM problem. It would make more sense that faulty RAM, would cause a problem with the computer system being unstable. We do not recommend running any RAM testing. Thanks, so I've renamed those to: TradeActivityLogs_backup and Sierra4.config.backup Opened the app and loaded a chart - no problem freezing now What's the next step to get my chartbooks back please?

Try opening the Chartbook, and if there is no problem good. If there is a problem, then create a new Chartbook gradually. This is the best advice we can give. OK, I've opened the chartbook and the app doesn't freeze thankfully, but there's no price updating (it brings up today's data up until about 7hrs ago) The other chartbook with the single chart is still working fine. Can I copy the original charts to the new chartbook, or will that corrupt that too do you think?

It would be very surprising that a chartbook would be corrupt in a way that the price would not update. Yes, the same symbols CQG that have been working fine previously seem to have all changed to non-CQG on this reload from the backup file change, and colour setting are slightly different. Seems to be working again now, thanks.
