Hello,

Since the last 2 weeks (ish) I realised that the sound alerts are not playing anymore.
I went into to the General Setings / Alerts General 3 where I can test sound files.

When testing the files I receive an error message in the logging window.
-Windows error code 122.

When I go into the Alertsounds folder I see all of the available wave files and they play as intented with the windows media player.

Do you know why do I get tis error, its probably related into the why I do not here any alert sounds anymore ?

Best regards,

We need to see the exact message you are getting from your error log. Please follow these instructions to get us your Message Log:

Follow the instructions here to clear the Message Log:

Try to play an Alert Sound from the General Settings window.

After about 10 seconds, provide a copy of the Message Log following these instructions:

Windows error code 122 is the following:
The data area passed to a system call is too small.

When Sierra Chart is playing sounds, there is no data area passed to the operating system. Only the path and file name. So this must be some kind of internal problem with the function for playing the sound. We really do not know what the issue is. Maybe you can run an Internet search for this and try to find some more information. Also try restarting your computer.

When playing the exact same sound (file) else where (outside of sierra chart), i.e. when double clicking on the file, it plays without any issues.
For some reasons, in sierra chart I can’t play the sound. As mentionned earlier, I did go to General Setings/Alerts General 3 tab and clicking on test sound, the sound doesn’t play and I get the error message in the message log as explained earlier.

We do not know how to help with it. We do not know what the cause is. It must be an operating system level issue.

I understand that you can't support technical issues related to the operating system (PC), but can you provide a bit of guidance here ?

What I don't understand is why it would be an operating system problem when the only place where the sound is not playing is within Sierra Chart ? This PC is clean and stable.

Above you just said : When Sierra Chart is playing sounds, there is no data area passed to the operating system. Only the path and file name. So this must be some kind of internal problem with the function for playing the sound.

So would that function internal to sierra chart ?

We do not know the answer to the question. We simply do not know. We cannot provide guidance for something that we do not understand or have any control over.

In the alert manager, there doesn't seem to point out to a sound file ... its like the alert is not happening.
I see the event the alert manager, but no sound file associated with the alert.

I went there for guidance General Settings Window: Troubleshooting for Alert Sounds That Do Not Play
but still I don't understand why the alert sound is not triggered.

Wow, finaly sorted out.

I had to dive into the sound settings and look for the sound settings by application.
The sound for sierra chart was set to zero. I don't know why, but I put it up high now and it works.

Thank you for your support.

Hello;

Can you elaborate on how you found the settings by application?

I found under the advanced sound options; the "app volume and device preferences", but could not see how to add Sierra Charts into the list of apps.

Was this a settings in the registry?

I've found the problem. You need to put the audio files inside the audio folder with the other provided wav files. Otherwise, if you use another folder you'll get an error.

Your custom wav files MUST be in the AlertSounds folder!!!
