Receiving delayed data for CL: running 10 minutes behind

At the moment (Wed May 1 16:33:00 UTC 2019), the SierraChart Data feed for the NYMEX /CL contract (CLM19, the June 2019 contract) seems to be about 10 minutes behind the wall clock time.

For example, at time, 16:31 GMT, 2019-May-01, the last tick update on /CL on the SierraChart Data feed is 16:18:02. Using version 1895 of SC.

A separate subscription to CQG, and on SierraChart v1882, does not show this severe 10 minute lag. So it would appear to be a data server issue.

This is very unlikely to be a server issue but we do see that your outbound send buffer was nearly half a megabyte at about 17:00 UTC time, confirming what you are saying. We noticed large buffers as well with other users. Most likely it was a network issue. We will ask Barchart about this who provides the networking.

Although we do not think 10 minutes of data would just be about .5 megabyte but maybe. Would seem unlikely. It would have to be more than that. So far Barchart is not observing any network issue at that time with their own systems and we are not either. So looks like it may have been an ISP issue.

At this point we are calling this an ISP issue. This cannot possibly be a Sierra Chart server issue. Never in the history of this data feed does such a problem ever exist and this is the only report we have a problem.

It seems to be quite persistent. At Thu May 2 00:02:49 UTC 2019, it is still 10 minutes behind.

Let me know what kind of troubleshooting I can pursue here.

Thanks.

We need to know how many symbols Sierra Chart is tracking.

And we want you to update to the current version of Sierra Chart:
Software Download: Fast Update

After that set Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> SC Server Settings >> Set Maximum Depth Levels to 20 to reduce bandwidth. Because right now the server is sending out 200 levels of depth.

Also a 10 minute delay is very suspicious because that is the standard delay time the CME requires for delayed data. But the thing is that the Sierra Chart exchange data feed does not provide any delayed data. Are you sure the data is coming from the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed?

> how many symbols

Tracking exactly 1 symbol, CLM19.

> use current version
I've installed v1915, and the lag remains.

> 20 levels
Set to 20 levels. Task manger says total cpu at 10%, total memory at 37% both before and after. The vps is at a colo near the CME, so theoretically bandwidth should not be a problem. But I will ask them to check on routing -- let me know where the data servers are.

> 10 minute delay suspicious.
I agree. This seems very suspicious. The delay goes out to 15 minutes now on CLM19. It is 15 minutes delayed on HKM19 too, and that is not from CME.

> sure I'm using Sierra Chart Exchange Data Fee?
DTS is set to "SC Data - All services", so I think so.

When I open and close SierraChart (v1915, current) I do *not* see a change in TCP
established connections using netstat -an. The upper left handle data frame
count in green is DF:3, which seems to indicate no packets getting through.
Is it using UDP by chance? In any case, it does seem that packets are not
getting through. DF:10 ST:2, 2 after running with two symbols (CLM19 and HKM19)
for several minutes.

If you let me know what IP addresses the SC Data servers are at, I can ask the
network provider to check to routing issues to them from my server.

Thank you.

Ok you are not receiving any real-time data at all. We misunderstood. This is not a data lag issue.

Follow the instructions here:

Thank you for the suggestion. I followed those instructions (had already done it, but did it again) Sadly, that did not correct the problem.

I double checked. It appears my account is paid up for two real-time sierra chart data feeds.

So back to the troubleshooting. This information that would allow my network provider to check the routing on their end:

a) do you use TCP or UDP (e.g. QUIC or other) to deliver the SC data feed?

b) to what IP addresses or dns names are the sierra charts real time data feed supposed to connect to?

Thank you.

p.s. Should I ask my broker to verify that the CME has "received" my live login?

Consider this resolved. I noted this line in the log:

Notice: Not connected to Live trading account to receive CME real-time futures data at lower cost exchange fee. | 2019-05-02 21:48:36

So I repeated the live trading account login yet once again.

I guess third time is the charm. This time after reconnect I no longer see that line in the log, and data is coming in realtime.

Thanks for your help.

We see that your Control Panel is showing that you have the Denali Exchange Data Feed active. This is incorrect and we are looking into it. Note that you are not paying for the data feed showing active, it is just the notification that is incorrect.

Therefore, you are getting your data from CQG.

The reason your Control Panel is showing that you have the Denali Exchange Data Feed active is because you are Evaluating Package 12, which includes the MBO data and the Denali Exchange Data Feed. Once that evaluation is done, you will not see the Denali Exchange Data Feed active anymore.

I am not evaluating any packages 12

Our log shows that your account selected the option for "Evaluate Advanced Package". This is why you are set to evaluate Package 12 until May 11, 2021. It really does not impact anything, so you do not need to worry about it.

Since i moved from AMP login to Sierra chart log in and all my chart book are frozen and can not get any to work
You really did not need to change your accounts as you did, but this is fine. Just make sure that you are always logging in with the same account from which you have posted this Support Board posting.

Given the above, do the following for us:

Follow the instructions here to clear the Message Log:
Message Log: Clearing the Message Log

Open a chart for the symbol you have an issue with. Tell us that symbol of the chart.

Disconnect from the data feed with "File >> Disconnect".

Connect to the data feed with "File >> Connect to Data Feed".

After the connection and after about 10 seconds, provide a copy of the Message Log following these instructions:
