Hi, I don't want to bother anyone. But I have read Time Zone Setting: Using Different Time Zone in Individual Charts this. And I can't find the solution, sure it is because im not understanding it.

I know sierra Chart is a "little" bit overwhelming for new users. I was aware of that. but there are so many things that I have to get tight, that i'm struggling.

I'm located in the Canary islands. Which means I got the same global time as a major city like London.

I'm confused because setting wrong times affects trading charts.

I want to trade Futures and CFD.

I'm interested in FTSE, DAX, Nasdaq, Dow, Sp500..

PLEASE I BEG someone help me to set the time sessions or the global time zone.

If it is something so simply like setting my global time zone (London), ok happy.

But if I had to set a session time for every instrument according to bla bla... i'm completely lost. Morning session, evening session, etc... lost.

Sorry for asking for this kind of help. I'm aware of the forum rules.

Humongous thanks in advance.

Not sure if I understand your question correctly, set your Global Time Zone as "London"
I think the main difficulty is that, The schedule of daylight savings in Canary Islands
is different than in North America, it should be fine most time of the year, except for
4 weeks in Mar. and Nov. that really get confusing. (US market would start one hour early
or late than usual)

For product like ES or NQ for example,
if you Use Evening Session:

Intraday Session from: 14:30:00 to 22:00:00
Evening Session: from 23:00:00 to 14:29:59
Otherwise the session time goes:

from 23:00:00 to 22:00:00

Meaning, each session of US futures market goes from 23:00:00 to 22:00:00 next day,
your local time (23 hours of trading time each session), but the most activities happen
from 14:30:00 to 22:00:00, your local time. Except those 4 weeks I mentioned above.

Usually the US futures market is pretty much dead before 13:30:00 your local time.

That is probably the easiest way to handle your situation, instead of worrying what the
time it is now in North America.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

First of all THANKS.

Yes, intraday and evening session. ok.

But if i'm in the canary islands, shouldn't I put 13:30 to 21 and 22 to 13:29:59?

I have a 4 hour difference from new york. I'm not the same as Madrid. I'm asking eh.

Another questions. Where do i have to set that? For every instrument is best or there is other way?

And again THANKS tony.

Just set your global time zone to London. Go to Global settings >> time zone settings

Set your chart time to Chicago, session open to 08:30:00 close to 16:00:00, evening start to 17:00:00 and evening end to 08:29:29. Go to Chart settings >> session times

Yes and if you do it that way the times of your trades in the log will be in your local time, so its not confusing

08:29:59 not 08:29:29 that I wrote by accident =]

And before you ask, after youve done that, in your chart settings then click Grid >> show vertical grid, set that to yes and then go to vertical grid interval and set that to session start. So you have vertical lines drawn at start and end

First of all thanks a LOT.

I'm confused.

I was using trading view before. and when I start to trade it was 13:30 here.

So now the software will show me my local hours in the trade (I will continue start trading at 13:30) but the software know that the trading session starts at 8:30 a.m in the USA?

by the way... open session is 8:30 in the morning in Chicago or 9:30? I always start trading at 13:30 (my local time), wich means 9:30 in new york? I was trading indices.

Now your chart time at the bottom of the chart will be Chicago time.

Open is 08:30:00 Chicago.

14:30 London is 09:30 NY and 08:30:00 Chicago, but the clocks have changed this weekend so as of tomorrow 13:30 London is 09:30 NY and 08:30 Chicago.

If you put those vertical lines on your chart you'll see when the open is even if you dont know

This means that despite my bottom chart time line is chicago, the time stamps of the trades will be in my local hour?

I can't believe i finally understood it!!!

One last thing. Talking about changing hour. Now in the Usa they recently changed to summer time. 1 hour less.

That means that after the first weekend of november 2023 I will have to change the session hours to +1 hour?

No, the chart displays time in Chicago now, the session time doesn't change. It is always 08:30:00. All you need to do is remember it's opening at 13:30:00 till the 26th on this month then it'll be back to opening at 14:30:00 etc

So "the problem" is only in this bracket from today or yesterday till the 26 of this month? The rest of the year is 14:30¿

You got it! Also on October 29th when UK changes again to the 5th of November when Chicago changes. Twice a year this happens.

All good =]

@Tin43,

I can clearly see the confusions now, and let me try to clarify them one by one:

I have a 4 hour difference from new york. I'm not the same as Madrid. I'm asking eh.
Canary Islands and New York are 5 (Five) time zones apart, the reason you see 4 hour difference is
that it is already Day Light Saving schedule in North America now, you will see 5 hour difference
after Mar. 26th, when Canary Islands starts Day Light Saving, which is 92% per cent of time, this is
the difficulty I mentioned in #2.

But if i'm in the canary islands, shouldn't I put 13:30 to 21 and 22 to 13:29:59?

Please see the attached image.

Please see the attachment, lets say ES or NQ Monday session for example, it starts 18:00:00 New York
time on Sunday until 17:00:00 on Monday, and Tuesday session starts from 18:00:00 on Monday, so on
and so forth. That means 92% of the time ES session starts 23:00:00 on previous day until 22:00:00 current day
your local time. Please be aware that New York Stock Exchange ALWAYS opens 9:30:00 on each trading day,
New York time. That is usually 14:30:00 your local time, but there are roughly 8% of time (like we are experiencing
right now), it would be 13:30:00 (1 hour early) due to different Day Light Saving schedules.

This is very important, because, you almost will never get good trades before 8:30:00 New York Time

Another questions. Where do i have to set that? For every instrument is best or there is other way?
There is no right or wrong answer to that question. I am sure there are a lot of traders like
to set each chart different than Global Time Zone, based on each individual instrument.

For me, personally, those extra work is totally unnecessary. If I would imagine myself living in
Canary Islands, and trading ES, all I have to know that I should get myself ready by 2 PM, and I know
there will be no trading opportunities after 10 PM. I don't care what time it would be in New York,
because I don't live in New York or Chicago. All I need is just one Global Time Zone in Sierra Chart

Again, there is no right or wrong answer, it is totally personal preferences.

I want to shoot myself.

I'm worried about sessions times because i'm in a course about volume profile, vwap etc etc etc that emphasize on how important is to have the time sessions correctly.

that's why i'm so persistent on this.

Really i know beforehand that SC is not for newbies, but daang... maybe they could implement something to detect hour country and automatically set all this settings, like windows does or so, but according to trading and variations etc... like "i'm here and want to trade this exchange in this country.."

So, what should I do then?

This
Intraday Session from: 14:30:00 to 22:00:00
Evening Session: from 23:00:00 to 14:29:59
and forget about anything else.. or do what User58?

I thought I was grasping this. Dang.

P.S: Big thanks really Tony.

P.S1: I prefer the most simply solution but that doesn't have any bad consequences or confussion. (don't know how to say this in English).

I am trading from the UK and knowing exactly what time it is in Chicago by looking at the chart is far easier than making a mental note of it in local time. I am trading a Chicago market so I want to know what time it is there, lunch, 1500 close out etc.

I used to have mine set up like Tony mentions but when the clocks change the session time are all wrong. So avoid this confusion and save me having to change session times 4 times per year I changed to Chicago time and I never have to change anything

You got it buddy, that is almost perfect, except 2 weeks before Daylight
Saving starts in Mar. and 1 week after Daylight Saving ends in Oct. on
Canary Isl. that sessions will start one hour early. I am sure you will
get used to it in no time.

Good luck with your trading man!

P.S.

little bit off topic: please check important events for next week on Sunday afternoon
for example, market will go crazy on Mar 14 and Mar 15, at 8:30:00 New Your time
or 12:30:00 (noon), your local time.

User585104 made a great point, there is a serious flaw of my way, that there will be one-hour data
missing (1st hour) for 3 weeks in a year, most of time, it is not a big deal, but for days like today... :D

The solution would be:
Intraday Session from: 13:30:00 to 21:59:59
Evening Session: from 22:00:00 to 13:29:59

And make sure that
Chart Settings --> Chart Data --> Allow Zero Values
is set to "No"

Then you will never miss any data under any circumstances, and you will never even have to worry about
different Daylight Saving schedule anymore.

So most of time there will be no data between 22:00:00 to 23:00:00, or sometimes no data between
21:00:00 to 21:59:59, but then there will be no candle bars printed for zero values anyway.

The reason I modify Intraday start time to 13:30:00 is that for Index Futures, it is not uncommon
at all that big actions start one hour before NY stock market open, which is not predictable regardless
whether you use Global Time Zone settings or not, since you mentioned that your course really emphasizes
on session times, it is probably not a bad idea. (I don't use evening session)

Tony what you have said is wrong again and wasting his time. Correct setting using your own method would be:

Intraday Session from: 13:30:00 to 21:00:00
Evening Session: from 22:00:00 to 13:29:59

Not as you have stated

Intraday Session from: 13:30:00 to 21:59:59
Evening Session: from 22:00:00 to 13:29:59

Tin43 trust me and just do what I have said in my original responses. Forget all this other stuff
