Loss of historical data after version upgrade

Dear Sierra Engineering,

I recently upgraded from version 2285 to 2296 (latest version) and in the process lost data on my historical charts. To check if the newer version was the issue, I reverted back to version 2285 and was able to see all the data I had previously. So, in summary, in version 2285 I am able to display historical data that goes back to June 2000, but after the upgrade to version 2296, my historical data only goes back to June 2015, a loss of 15 years of data. Please see the before and after pics I have attached. My historical charts use “Continuous Futures Contract – Volume Based Rollover, Back Adjusted”. I am not sure what is going on that is causing the newer version of Sierra Chart to not pick up and display the older data.

Thank you in advance for looking into this!

Dan

It is rather strange that between the versions you see different amounts of data. It's possible a change was made that put a specific control in place that was not working previously. Go through the steps at the following link in the newer version and let us know if you continue to have a problem:

We will explain the reason, why this is the case but it is due to single-digit years with Transact symbols. We will put together documentation on what to do.

I really appreciate you looking into this. I did review all the documentation you prepared on this issue and understand the reasoning behind it due to the way TransAct handles their symbols. One question I have, though, is will I need to always be running two instances of Sierra Chart to make this work, one to be able to access the older historical data on higher time frames and then another for trading through TransAct? (i.e. the first instance would be “Global Settings => Data/Trade Service Settings => Current Selected Service => SC Data - All Services” And the other instance for trading through Transact would be “Global Settings => Data/Trade Service Settings => Current Selected Service => TransAct WS [trading]”). I just need some clarification if this is actually the case. I will do whatever I need to do.

Again, I thank you!

Dan

Unfortunately, due to the use of a single digit year by your trading service, the setup you are using now is the only option for being able to access data more than 5 years prior to the current date.

I'm sorry, John. I'm not sure I understand. I am not technically inclined. My trading service right now is TransAct. That does NOT give me more than 5 years historical date prior to the current date (in the most recent version of Sierra chart, that is) if I use "TransAct WS [Trading]". Would I need to set up a second instance of Sierra Chart with the "Current Selected Service" being "SC-Data - All Services" in order to be able to see more than 5 years of historical data? Or can I use only "SC Data - All Services" and TransAct will still be able to account for all my trades?

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

Dan

You would have to setup two different installations of Sierra Chart in order to see the historical data more than 5 years ago.

In one installation, you will have your connection to TransAct, as you do now. You will leave that alone, and you will be able to get historical data up to 5 years ago along with your real-time data. You will make your trades from this installation.

Then you will install a second installation of Sierra Chart in which you will set the File >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Current Selected Service to SC Data - All Services. This will allow you to get your real-time data and the historical data as far back as we have the data (2008 for CME Group data, for example). You will not be able to trade from this installation, but you can use it to view your historical chart data.

In order to install another Sierra Chart, follow these instructions:

Again, thank you, John. I am now clear on how to proceed. It is too bad that TransAct is not set up properly, but this gives me the workaround I need. Take care... Dan
