I'm using the Denali thing, and both L1 and L2 data suddenly froze a few minutes ago!!! What the hell is going on? <Interactive Brokers>

We are not aware of any problem but we are checking to see if there is anything wrong.

We see that you do have a connection to the Sierra Chart server for the Denali feed and tracking 48 symbols. Everything is stable and fine. Are you still noticing an issue? Must be some other explanation for the problem other than the data feed.

Reconnect to the data feed :
File Menu: Procedure to Reconnect to the Data and Trade Servers

Not sure why that would help, but just thinking of all possibilities.

Thanks for the reply.

The issue seems to have resolved itself.

The data problems lasted for about 3 minutes. All the charts/DOMs/QuoteBoards stopped updating. I checked my internet connection, no issues - I always have a ping to my router and to a few external servers, to ensure that my connection is not the problem. I also checked Netflix's fast.com service to see if I could be having bandwidth issues, but it wasn't the problem either. My connection to everything other than the data feed was fine.

I tried to disconnect and reconnect a few times, no success. I mean, it would show as connected, but data wouldn't come.

Eventually, while I was connected, it started showing L1 data, but no L2 data on my DOMs.

It displayed the "downloading historical data" message, probably to download the data it missed while it wasn't connected, but couldn't download historical data. It seemed like at this point, L1 was restored, but L2 and historical were still failing.

Eventually, and without any more intervention on my part (i.e., no new disconnect/reconnect cycles from me), L2 started showing again, and eventually the charts populated the missing data.

Very weird.

I think this was the first big instability I had since the switch to Denali.

Please let me know if you folks identify an issue with Denali, I'd probably want to switch to another data source if Denali is the problem.

Thanks

Out of all of the users on the server at the time which is one of the servers, there were no other disconnections and no other issue other than one.

But your connection showed a very large outgoing buffer size and a disconnection due to that:
2019-10-16 17:43:33 | Client 2588 socket (83) | Buffer limit of 2097152 bytes reached. Closing socket.
2019-10-16 17:43:33 | bfreis007 (2588): Socket has been closed.
2019-10-16 17:43:33 | Client connection (83) | Write in progress. Shutdown being delayed.
2019-10-16 17:43:33 | bfreis007 (2588): Client connection stopped.
2019-10-16 17:43:34 | Deleting old client connection: bfreis007 (2588).

We will increase the buffer limit but the network connectivity between the server and your system was not enough too receive all of the data. There was some network connectivity issue. It was not an issue on our server. And unlikely to have been an ISP issue either. And as we said, we only see two users affected.

There is a bandwidth reduction we are going to be making, that should be completed in about a week or so. This will help . But we think the best thing to do is to reduce the bandwidth being used if you experience this again. Refer to 4.12 here:

This tells us, there was some network connectivity issue somewhere if this was not helping. Because you would have been switching between two different servers in two different data centers, with different physical connectivity.

The following ISPs are used by our servers:
CBOT - Cogent (upcoming server)
Equinix CH1 - Verizon (Currently used)
CME DC3 - Zayo (currently used)

As far as the issue with the market depth data, we think that the subscription to market depth data just was not getting through, due to the connectivity issue, and that's why it was delayed. It is quite clear that this was an issue outside of our servers and network.
