Bill, want to let you know that my data freeze issue has been 100% successfully resolved.
The cure for my situation involved adding a 2nd instance of SC (and I actually have added
two instances, 3 in total). If you would like additional information feel free to get in touch.

Wow, that is exciting! Mine is still in the shop for diagnosis, and still not trading.

I am all ears :). I have a second instance but on another PC, and it is the Historical service only.
.
So, did you install both on same PC? Seems weird that you can do so. I would be interested in trying it. Could you tell me how the login works with two instances? Any other nuances? Thanks so much ged!

The installation and subsequent daily login procedure is surprisingly straight forward. The procedure is pretty well explained in the SC Help documentation under the heading "Using DTC Server for Data and Trading in Another Sierra Chart Instance".

According to the tech I've been working with, the fact that your data freezes are more frequent on your more powerful computer apparently increases the probability that this method may be a fix for you as well.

Are you running the 32-Bit or 64-bit version of SC?

Initially, to diagnose whether adding an instance or two may solve your data freeze issue, pull up the Task Manager on your faster machine and take a look at what percentage of your CPU is being used by SierraChart. The higher it is above 12.5% the more likely it is that adding at least one additional SC instance will fix the problem.

After taking a look at the Task Manager while SC is running during regular trading hours with chartbook or chartbooks you generally use open, if it appears that adding another instance will be helpful let me know. Then we can discuss how I've set mine up, the opening process, etc.

OK Ged, I am picking up my machine today: they said could not find anything that they felt would cause the data freeze. When I get it back, I will test the CPU. It's a 32bit.

However, your solution re: dual instances may solve another (even greater issue I have had for over a year now, and thought it was my machine just slowing down for some reason.

For at least a year I have had issues EVERY TIME I make a change to a chart, such as changing the size from 1 minute to 2 minutes. Also, ANY changes I make to a Study, will likewise FREEZE the whole machine for 30 to 60 seconds! I have been so upset with this, but since it did not interfere with trading, I just lived with it, thinking I will deal with it after the data freeze is solved.

Now your comments above about CPU, are seemingly directed also, to this very problem! In other words, following your solution, might just solve both issues! Will let you know once I get PC back later today and take a look at the 'DTC Server' help topic. Thanks for your persistence :).

Good Bill, glad you are retrieving your computer and no problem was found with it.

Once it is back in hand let's see if we can find a way to communicate more directly/efficiently, without either of us having to post our primary contact info on this public board.

Those of you who are having this problem, I'm curious: what are you using for antivirus software?
