Hello,

I recently updated my SC to 1522. I run two copies of SC. One for minute data that uses SC Historical data and one for tick data that uses GainCapital/OEC. The GainCapital copy has a remote ES chart that is a continuous volume based rollover chat. Now I get the following error:

The continuous volume based rollover is working on the SC Historical copy. I included both chartbooks.

Continuous Futures Contract charts are not supported when using the remote chart data feature. This is documented on this page here:
Continuous Futures Contract Charts

Also the remote chart data feature is considered out of date at this time. It has been replaced with the new DTC Server:

Continuous Futures Contract charts are not supported when using the remote chart data feature.

It worked in 1209 - used it for 2 years.

The New Instance seems like a nice new feature.
Do you have any documentation on how to use the "New Instance" feature? How do I get minute data form a data source different from the original copy?

Thx,
WT

Hello,

The documentation I am reading is not helpful for my simple goal. How do I get minute datafrom SC Historical Data to work inside my GainCapital/OEC copy?

may i chime in? i have the same need for this.. getting the NYSE-Tick from InteractiveBrokers and the rest of the data from SC feed.. this is crucial as the SC-Feed-TICK isnt gonna cut it.

new instance feature doesnt help in that case.

Hello,

Andreas, the more the merrier.

-----------------------------------------------

Last night I created a "New instance" of my SC Historical copy. Now I am getting a reoccurring error message. I disabled the DTC Protocol Server in the "Data/Trade Service Settings" but that did not help.

In response to post #6, you can open a chart for any symbol that Interactive Brokers supports.

Refer to:
Interactive Brokers Symbols

Just simply open a chart using the Interactive Brokers NYSE Tick symbol. There is nothing special to do.

you missunderstood.. i have to be able to use 1 instance of SC with interactivebrokers and the other one with CQG and i want to make sure that you understand that the "instance-feature" does not work out in this scenario

i am aware that the "remote chart" feature is working as of now and i hope you wont remove it only because you might think the "instance-feature" might be sufficient.

Hello,

I disabled the DTC Protocol and restarted SC and the messages went away.

Also the remote chart data feature is considered out of date at this time. It has been replaced with the new DTC Server

I am confused. If the remote chart is out of date how can I get SC Historical minute data to work with my GainCapital/OEC copy that is using tick data?

Thx,
WT

No we are not going to remove this functionality.

The only limitation is that continuous futures contract charts are not supported with remote chart data files opened with File >> Find Symbol.

How do I get minute datafrom SC Historical Data to work inside my GainCapital/OEC copy?
What you need to do is use the File >>New Instance feature and set the Intraday Data Storage Time Unit in that instance to 1 Minute:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/DataSourceSettings.php#IntradayStorageUnit

The historical data for expired futures contracts will come from the SC Historical Data service. The current contracts will come from data maintained from the Gain Capital data feed. Although refer to this section here:
Using DTC Server for Data and Trading in Another Sierra Chart Instance: Historical Data and Missing Historical Data

We do not have any other solution to offer if the remote chart data file feature does not currently meet your requirements.

DTC Protocol Server failed to start listening on port 11099. | 2017-02-28 12:40:34 *
Listening socket (1236), port 0 | Failed to bind socket to 0.0.0.0:11099. Windows error code 10048: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. | 2017-02-28 12:41:34 *

Refer to:
Using DTC Server for Data and Trading in Another Sierra Chart Instance: Resolving DTC Protocol Server Port Number Conflicts

There is a problem that even when you are disabling the DTC Protocol Server that it will not stop trying to listen. This will be corrected in the next release.

Hello,

Found a final solution. I am using the rusty, old and forgotten "Write bar data to file" study. It was already being used in the GainCapital chartbook, now I just moved it over the SC Historical Data chartbook and pointed it to the GainCapital data directory.

I did set up a continuous chart with tick data but the bar data is so much more efficient.

I like the stability of using one version of SC for an extended period of time. Then every so often (two years in this case) when circumstances force me to upgrade to the latest version, I have to leap frog all over the place to fix the problems.

One more problem to go.

Thx,
WT

OK, one thing we also wanted to make clear is that when using another instance of Sierra Chart connected to a Server instance of Sierra Chart (This is done with File >> New Instance), you might want to fully re-download the Intraday data in the main server instance since the other new instance is going to get the historical data from that main server instance.

This way you will know that the data is complete and from the Sierra Chart Historical Data Service for expired contracts.

When using Gain Capital, the data for expired futures contracts does come from the Sierra Chart Historical Data Service.
