It happened again this morning with VPN (as mentioned above), switched off

So that's not the issue either

We ended up not contacting Rithmic about this.

We now understand why this happens. It is something that we can solve.


It is a problem which potentially can occur when there are multiple Trade Accounts for a trading connection.

We will have this resolved before the end of the day.

That could make sense

I am currently switching between two trading accounts via Top Step

In the past (before these issues started happening), I had just one account at a time

This problem should now be resolved. We were unable to test because our Rithmic test account only has one trade account on it.

We were not aware of the problem until you brought it to our attention and until we started to look at it more closely. We have also given you two additional weeks.

You should have told us about it earlier. It was a Rithmic specific issue. It was a problem in the way that Sierra Chart was handling full order responses from Rithmic. It did not affect any other service and only affected Rithmic when there was more than one trade account.

There seems to be some improvement since your last update, orders don't seem to be disappearing all the time

I did have a temporary glitch today where my live order dissapeared off the DOM/Chart, then reappeared (log below)

However, there is another problem with your platform
Top step provide a limit to how many lots you can trade
So if (for example) you have 5 lots already in the market, and your limit is 5, then it's not possible to trade more
This is fine, sierra chart automatically stops you from trading above your limit

However, I've discovered that if I have my maximum 5 lots trading, then I use 'flatten'. Sierra chart won't flatten my position. It gives an error msg saying I have already used my maximum amount of lots, and can't use any more to close the position. This is because when sierra chart flattens a position, it just puts a market or in, for the opposite of the live position.

There is no log. You need to follow through these instructions:

In this particular case there is no cost for this.

No, this is not correct. You are receiving an order rejection error from the Rithmic system.

Sierra chart won't flatten my position. It gives an error msg saying I have already used my maximum amount of lots, and can't use any more to close the position. This is because when sierra chart flattens a position, it just puts a market or in, for the opposite of the live position.

The error message you see is from the Rithmic system. A market order obviously is required to close the position. There is no other way and that should be clear to you. If you have outstanding working orders, then you may want to enable this option:
Global Trade Settings Windows: Hold Market Order Until Pending Cancel Orders Are Confirmed (Global Settings >> General Trade Settings >> General)

Are there outstanding orders at the time the market order is sent?



I'm starting to discover than Sierra chart is not not really for professional trading. It just has too many issues
Charting is fine/good, but it's not a professional trading package
This is definitely not a fair common. There was only this one isolated case involving Rithmic with multiple trade accounts which we promptly resolved once we understood and we were aware of it.

You have not presented any evidence of any other issue.

Yes, I understand and appreciate the fact that you quickly resolved the issue
I have no complaints with your customer service, or your charting, which are both excellent

However, you have to understand. I am a trader not a programmer
I've worked in finance for 22 years.
When I use an application I need to be confident it is thoroughly tested and stable for all issues, no matter what they may be.

Understood, but you can trust Sierra Chart. We do acknowledge this one previous issue but it is resolved.

There should not be any other issues.

Regarding this:

Enable this option:

Global Trade Settings Windows: Hold Market Order Until Pending Cancel Orders Are Confirmed (Global Settings >> General Trade Settings >> General)
(Hold Market Order until Pending Cancel Orders Confirmed)

If there still is an issue we will ask Rithmic about this.
