Platform Freezing

Hi,

I'm using the Denali via the Trade Evaluator[trading] connection.

My system is fully automated.

Today I noticed when orders were executed (i.e. filled not working) the platform would freeze.

After a couple of instances of this I disabled my automated system and then attempted to executed orders manually to check if it was isolated to the system.

The same behavior occurred when executing manually.

The system completely locks up for a significant amount of time.

I've attached a screenshot of the behavior as well as the current version I'm running.

I have recordings of the behavior as well. The system is non responsive for multiple minutes.

How can I alleviate this issue?

We suspect that this is a remnant from your trading study. If it was still loaded, then it is possible that it is causing this issue.

Please restart Sierra Chart in "Safe Mode" and then try to place a manual trade with the Trading Evaluator. Safe Mode will not allow non-core studies to be run (you don't have to remove the study itself). If this works, then the next test would be to fully remove your study from all charts and then see if you have an issue placing a manual trade.

If you do not have an issue in the last situation we describe, then we would have to believe it is related to your study.

Prior to your response I restarted the platform and reopened the chartbook my system is running on and didn’t experience the issue.

My system had been up for a couple days as it will only trade during specific market hours.

To alleviate the possibility of this issue reoccurring would you suggest restarting the system after each session?

In general, it should not be necessary to restart the system. This certainly can, and should, be used in case you have the issue again. But if this becomes a constant item, then you would have to look at something else occurring, particularly with third party studies.

Ok.

I've also noticed that periodically the platform will freeze and then redownload historical data.

Is this possibly a side effect of custom studies?

Anything is possible. But it most likely is a network issue. The fact that there is a freeze and then a download, means the system was disconnected from the data/trade servers, which is why the missing data needed to be downloaded. The first thing is to get us your Message Log when this occurs and we'll see if there is anything specific in it. Follow these instructions to get us the log:

Also make sure there is not an excessive amount of trade activity files (Although most likely this has no relevancy):
