Hi Sierra Chart Support, I'm encountering an issue where the Message Log window is completely blank — no messages are displayed at all, not even startup logs. I've attached a screenshot to show what it looks like. I'm running the latest version: Sierra Chart v2475 (64-bit) Data feed is connected and chart data loads normally. The Message Log opens, but it's just a white blank window. I’ve tried restarting Sierra Chart and performing actions (like placing orders, reconnecting data feed), but still nothing appears in the log. So far, I've checked: Logging is enabled in Global Settings → General Settings. The log doesn’t auto-clear on open. There are no error messages or visible crashes. Running Sierra Chart as Administrator doesn't fix it. Can you please advise what might be causing this or how to reset/repair the Message Log system? See picture attached. Thanks in advance, |

Select "Global Settings >> Message Categories". This controls what types of messages are added to the Message Log. If all of these are set to "No" then this would be why you are not getting anything showing in the log. Change the items you want to see to "Yes". Another possibility is that the color of the text for the Message Log is set to be the same as the background color. This color is controlled through the following item: Graphics Settings: General Text Window Foreground Color One final possibility, although it would be surprising, is that your system is out of resources to be able to post the information to the log. In this case, exit from all programs and reboot your system. Then start Sierra Chart again and see if the problem is resolved. Make sure that Window >> Disabled Visible Message Logging is unchecked.

We see that you have the option for "Save Message Log to File" set to "Yes". Therefore, we would like to see if there is anything in the saved log file, which will tell us if the issue is due to colors or something else. Please use the Operating System file manager to go to the main Sierra Chart installation folder on your system (typically this would be C:\SierraChart, but could be different). Then go to the "Logs" folder. In that "Logs" folder, find a recent Message Log (not the most current one) and attach it to this thread for us to take a look. Refer to the following for how to get us a file: Support Board Posting Information: Attaching a File (Optional) For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

Hi John, Attached is the message log you were looking for. In my previous desktop, I had all the logs turn to "No" but I can still see the message logs. But several days ago, I install linux on that machine, so now I install sierra chart in this older windows 10 PC. This is when I stop seeing the message logs. And you told me to switch to "yes" for the message logs; that's why I tried. it. Thanks for your help. |

The good news is that there is data in the log itself. So the issue you are having is somehow related to the actual display of the information and not the information itself. Although this does not help us narrow this down, as the items that we know to check, we have already asked about - specifically the color of the "General Text Window Foreground Color". Note that there are a lot of messages in the log from a custom study. You may want to ask the developer about this and have them remove all that logging, as it is only taking up space that does not appear to be helpful. The only other thing we can think is that your computer is out of resources, and therefore is not able to display the information. We see this occasionally, although it would be surprising. But you mention that you are using an older computer. Please do the following for us: - Exit from Sierra Chart and all other programs. - Reboot your computer. - When your computer comes back up and you are logged in, start just Sierra Chart (try not to open any other programs), but when the Login Screen for Sierra Chart comes up, select the "Cancel" button one time. This will stop the automatic login. - On that Login window, deselect the option for "Open Files on Startup". - Then select the "Login" button to go ahead and log into the software. - No chartbooks will automatically load, so the screen will just stay blank. Select "Window >> Message Log". Let us know if you are able to see anything in the Message Log this time. You can continue from there, you do not need to wait for us, as your system is still working fine apart from the Message Log possibly not displaying properly.
