How to speed up the drawing of a Chart

SC,

Sometimes in a really fast NQ future market, the price will move many ticks, as witnessed by the fill of the order or its associated stop or target price, so that the order will fill or its stop or target will fill maybe 4 or 5 seconds before you see that price on the chart.
Is there a way to speed up the drawing of a chart?

Albeit sometimes the NQ gets somewhat crazy fast; but, it would be nice to see the Sierra Charts drawing faster.

I have the Chart Update Interval in Milliseconds set to 10 since that is what is recommended as the lowest to use at the address...
General Settings Window: Chart Update Interval (Global Settings >> General Settings >> General >> Update Intervals)
I changed the Use OS Timer for Charts to NO. I also have each charts update interval set to 0 so that it uses the global setting for the update interval of 10ms.

I am running on a 1 gig cable connection and a PC with 6 cores with 8 GB of memory and use an Ethernet cable to connect from my PC to my cable modem. This laptop is getting old but I keep it clean and mean. However it is an AMD Radeon Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics, so not the most powerful; but not bad. I just have the laptop monitor and then one external 23" monitor. I do have another monitor but have never hooked it up since I have trouble watching all I have already with just two monitors.

What can I do to speed up the drawing of a chart?

Sierra Charts are the best, in my not humble enough opinion.

Thanks in advance.

8GB of RAM is barely enough to run windows. Start there, really looks like you need to update your rig.

XYZ:

To run Windows 11 efficiently, a minimum of 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage is recommended. However, for a smoother user experience and to accommodate updates, drivers, and potentially larger applications, consider upgrading to 8 GB of RAM and at least 128 GB of storage, according to PCWorld and Microsoft Learn.

I am a trader, not a Computer Scientist. That is why I asked SC for their opinion. Very, very seldom do I see this 4 or 5 second delay and have only seen it on the NQ. The stop or target get hit during the volume burst as they should and the profit/loss gets updated as it should, it is only the actual range chart where I see the 4 or 5 second delay. The only way I know is the stop or target get filled and the sound goes off and then all the orders disappear in a nanosecond, as they should. When I enter a trade, my target and stop are automatically placed by the SC software. Trading off the DOM attached to a SC chart rocks. GC gold gets fast and thin at times but have not really noticed the issue except in the NQ.

Thanks for your opinion XYZ.

first check task manager for ram usage
10ms update rate on a pc that came with 8gb ram, i can tell you the computer is old right off the bat
task manager will show cpu usage, ram, disk, all parameters will be important here

4 or 5 seconds sounds like a lot, are you actually seeing the chart "lock" for those 4 or 5 seconds? If not, then this is not an issue with Sierra Chart, as the system is still working and will show the information when it is received.

We see you are using Rithmic, and we would point to that as the main issue. We hear a lot of these kind of delays with Rithmic.

SC John,

It happens really seldom but if the NQ gets crazy fast, then I will see my order fill, the associated stop and target placed and then there will be a rush to hopefully my target and then I will hear the order fill sound I have set in SC and the order and its associated target and stop lines will disappear, as they should, and then I will see the chart trade to where it either hit my stop or my target. This whole process happens very, very seldom and it all occurs in about 4 to 5 seconds as an estimation...it is probably more like 3 seconds. I just thought there was a way I could speed things up in chart so that I didn't see it at all. I tried to change the Use Windows OS to "NO" from "YES, but it caused my computer to be too sluggish all the time, so I changed it back.

Do you think this computer would be sufficient to handle the NQ volume burst, SC? https://tinyurl.com/5yrc5bz2

So the charts are behind the orders and not the other way around. In this case, it could be your computer, or the setup for Sierra Chart. It is hard to say. And we really can not give advice on what kind of computer to get, apart from stating that you want to ensure you are using an SSD drive for your Sierra Chart data.

In terms of the overall Sierra Chart performance, refer to the information at the following link:
High CPU Usage | Inactive User Interface | Poor Performance | Long Time to Load Chart Data | Charts Reloading Often

SC John,

I swapped the 2nd monitor where the NQ charts are to a USB-C port, it was on a HMDI port, and now I don't really see a noticeable lag.
When I talk my wife into letting me buy a Beelink mini computer, it will be all good. I might have to watch a romantic movie with her to get it done. It will be painful; but, not pain, no gain. :+)

Thanks again.

Sierra Charts are the best in my opinion.

LOL. A few tears at the end will seal the deal!
