Is it possible to automate the scanning function on a particular chart? Say, have it go off every 5 mins or 10 mins or some other time variable?

What do you mean by scanning function?

Under the chart menu, there are two menu items: start and stop scan. If you add instruments to the Associated Watch List for a particular chart, and you have a simple alert set for the chart in the studies section, and then you hit the scan button, the chart will scroll through the instruments in the list to see if your alert condition has been met.
What I would like to know (and I don't understand why SC is ignoring this thread) is can this be set on an automatic scanning timer, set to go off every few minutes or an hour or whathaveyou.
Having to do it manually can obviously lead to human error (ie i'm dumb enough to forget to do it, sometimes).
Using the scan function precludes having to set up lots of different charts with the same alert on each. It's disadvantage is that it scrolls through them pretty rapidly, and you have to go back to any that meet the alert condition. That's something else SC could fix...a variable scrolling time. Say, scroll through one every minute or 2 minutes, or whatever.

IC, I have never used that before, but I don't see any way to control it through ASCIL. In lieu of a better response from Support, my only suggestion is to a Windows macro program to schedule it, but that could cause problems if you are right in the middle of doing something, so maybe just a timed alert? Sorry can't be more help.

actually, that sounds promising, but how would you do a timed alert say for every five minutes?

I think Autohotkey could be programmed to do something every n minutes.

vegas. i don't know acsil, don't have the time to learn it; but as you say it might not be helpful in any case. how would you do a timed simple alert? you were talking about within the simple alert box, right? do you know the formula?
Tom. re:autohotkey-never used it before, have now checked it out albeit cursorily but i think it might be good for quite a few things but not what i'm trying to do. i want to have the alerts scanned for on a timely basis, as opposed to trying remember every 1-5 minutes to scan for them. this is on a notebook/tablet where opening many charts and setting up spreadsheets and many alerts is not feasible.thus the scan function if it goes off every few minutes would pretty well reduce the need of tying up lots of resources.
but thanks tom for the suggestion, it will probably help with lots of other things.i'll look at it more closely later.
odd that SC hasn't chimed in here...they would know the answer in a second...

What I meant by timed alert was an alarm clock app set to go off every nth interval so you can remember to press scan. I recognize this is not the best solution. Never done it, but probably could create an alert to go off every n minutes, but I can't make it automatically scan the watchlist, so it would be rather useless for you purpose.

well, yes i have one of those already...actually the real problem is that when mobile and using the notebook i am frequently (and necessarily) distracted by other events around me (without going into details, its a high-stress environment) and thus find it difficult to focus on the scanning for alerts when i need to.
but i'll keep your idea in mind, thanks vegas.
