Sub instance spiking CPU, hanging and crashing

I setup a sub instance couple weeks ago and all was working well, but today I have noticed issues when closing Sierra, the sub instance would hang (not responding) and spike memory CPU and I would have to End Task. Now every time I open Sierra it is doing the same with the Sub instance, massive CPU spiking and program hangs (not responding). Please see attached image from Task manager. Any idea what's happened, shall I just delete the sub instance and create again?

We do not know why that would be happening. All performance issues are documented here:
High CPU Usage | Inactive User Interface | Poor Performance | Long Time to Load Chart Data | Charts Reloading Often

First thing to do is to see if it relates to a Chartbook.

Hi, this problem persists, although I don't think its anything to do with the sub-instance, it on both. In the last week I have removed and reinstalled Sierra twice, both times it rums great for a few days and the the problem comes back, and once started it seems to exponentially get worse quickly.

I have noticed 2 similar issues on the support board this week:

https://www.sierrachart.com/SupportBoard.php?ThreadID=71700

Extreme slowness and high CPU / RAM Usage

What I have experienced is that once a slow closing and spike in CPU/ memory use occurs, it seems to be remembered and on the next occasion I open Sierra that huge memory usage is then the starting amount for Sierra. When I close the program I get another CPU & memory spike adding to the initial amount, which is then the starting amount the next time I open so its quickly increasing with every closing of the program. This is when it takes increasing longer to close the program with the not responding status.

So when running smoothly, I rarely go above 100-200mb memory usage per instance, and everything opens/ closes quickly, but once this issue occurs Sierra memory allocation use quickly increases to high hundreds and then thousands as seen in the screenshots. This is without any chartbook loading on start-up.

Please do not make reference to other threads. We will not make reference to those. Each issue is on its own and is different.

This issue absolutely must have something to do with what you are doing with Sierra Chart and your system. It could not be a problem with Sierra Chart itself.

Maybe this is related to a large amount of trade activity data. Go into the TradeActivityLogs subfolder in the Sierra Chart installation folder. What is the size of that folder and the number of files? When Sierra Chart is not running, we recommend renaming this folder to rule that out as an issue and start Sierra Chart again.

Also enable Trade >> Trade Activity Log >> Edit >>Disable Trade Activity Log.

Sorry to reference the other thread.

Yes that seems it could be the problem. After renaming the TradeActivityLog Sierra works as new.

The size of the TradeActivityLog folder on my main Instance is 5.83 GB! 896 files and 62 folders, and on the sub instance it is 3.61 GB 396 files and 14 folders.

How and why are they so big? Is there something I done wrong, and if I disable I guess I won't be able to use Log for stats and records?

Are these 62 and 14 folders within the TradeActivityLog folder, folders that you created? There should be no other folders.

Those files are quite large. They are recording the trading activity or back test activity. Delete the ones that you do not need.

No I've never looked at these before, but I checked them again and there are no folders, the Properties are now: main instance 1.88 GB 53 files, and sub instance 2.49 GB 57 files.

In both its the OrderfillsToSend.data that is the huge size. I don't know why its got so big, I haven't run any backtests, just a few simulation trades and some Live trades.

I'm going delete the old TradeActivityLog folders. I noticed new fresh ones have been created, and I know what to look for now if the CPU problem occurs again.

Uncheck this setting:

And delete this file:
OrderfillsToSend.data

For your information Sierra Chart can handle a large amount of trade activity files. On our server, we have 300,000 files, and about 30 GB of data. All this is handled efficiently.

Although none of the files individually are very large.
