I opened SC this morning and got the error:

sierra charts configuration file error unable to read due to newer file format

SC will not load my accounts conf file, many chart customizations, or recent chartbooks and many other settings. I looked through your help page on issues like this but I could not find this exact error.

My Interactive Brokers updated overnight but im not sure why that would change anything in my sierra charts data folder.

Check to make sure you are not out of disk space. That seems to be cause of these kind of issues.

Otherwise, the file is called Sierra3.cfg and is located in your main installation folder for Sierra Chart (typically this would be C:\Sierra Chart). We would like to see that file, so attach it to this thread using these instructions:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=PostingInformation.php#AttachFile

Then use one of the backup files in place of that one. Refer to the instructions here:

Did you update to the current version of Sierra Chart 2206 and then went back to a prior version? If so, it would lead to this problem when running the prior version. The solution should be to update back to the current version, in this case 2206. We are verifying that. For now, use a backup configuration file:

Resetting Sierra Chart to a Default State / Restoring Backup Global Configuration File: Restoring Backup Global Configuration File

We are working on a solution to this problem so this will not happen again. We do apologize. Although we are not quite clear on the scenario that led to it.

I did manage to get it up and running using the backup config file. There is something off with my SC in general. I migrated in January to a new PC and had several problems getting the platform to run properly. The only way I can load my chartbook is by updating to the current version every time I open sierra charts. I have been doing this to avoid the potential quagmire of reinstalling it.

We have released version 2207 which resolves the problem you ran into in the first post. You must have updated to the latest version and gone back to a prior version and then gone back to the latest version.

Although based upon what you are describing in post #4 it sounds as though you have some sort of system issue causing that problem with Sierra Chart going back to a prior version.

The only way I can load my chartbook is by updating to the current version every time I open sierra charts
So it sounds like basically after you update somehow when you restart Sierra Chart you are running the prior version. That is not a Sierra Chart problem itself but a system issue. Any idea why that is happening? It simply makes no sense and is unheard of.

I have spent a couple of hours trying to figure it out but I am unable to so far. To reiterate here are the steps I used to take to get the platform working.

I would open SC and it would log in normally and then it used the DTS settings to log in my IBKR platform. At this point I disconnect SC and normally run through the install latest version process. Once the IBKR is loaded and the SC installation process is finished I open my primary chart book.

If I do not go through the SC installation process and attempt to load the chart book I get an error saying this is not a valid chart book.

I posted the original message because now in addition to the problem of installing the SC update every time in order for it to work I have to copy and paste a config file from the back up folder to avoid the newer file format error.

I tried going through some old chartbooks this morning without doing the update to SC work around and I was able to load some older chartbooks but the formatting is full of errors on the attached trade window. None of the buttons/menus are visible except for buy and sell.

I have two instances of SC running so I compared the two main folders with the executables. In the instance that works without issues there are two green icons named SierraChart and SierraChart_64.

In the other folder (the one not working) There are three applications. I attached an image. I tried opening the application that does not have the normal icon. Its only 1,846 kb and it works normally. It is version 2207. The only thing missing when I open the app are my DTS username and password settings for IB.

When I installed this instance of SC I did something wrong (renaming the exe?) I dont want to change anything as I am concerned I will make it worse so I will wait for you to advise me on renaming or deleting the application files.

This sounds like a system issue. Can you attach a screenshot of the Trade Window following these instructions:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=PostingInformation.php#AttachFile

We see what the problem is. You have renamed the executable file to SierraChart_64_IBKR. Delete all instances of this file in all folders where Sierra Chart is installed. And do not rename the executable file.

And then delete all shortcuts to Sierra Chart on your desktop. Run the SierraChart_64.exe file in the folder where Sierra Chart is installed to and then select Global Settings >> Create Desktop Shortcut to put a new shortcut on the desktop.

After the above we would expect you will not have any further trouble.
