I started up SC today and the following error was displayed. It appears my login information and all of the configuration settings (there were a lot which took many hours) I set have gone. This applies to the six instances I had open. Please advise.

Configurationh file error. Not enough data in the config file to be valid.

Ok, thanks. What would cause the config files in six instances to be corrupted at the same time? The corrupted config file is showing a size of 0 KB.

It would be an operating system or hardware level problem. Or possibly caused by a custom study causing a memory corruption but this would not be so likely.

It appears the corrupted files were caused by a full hard disk (100%) because of the size of the .scid files. I have six instances and hundreds of charts open. I deleted the .scid files and reduced the 'Use Number of Days To Load' field to '365' from '0' (load all data). Hopefully, that will help.

Is it possible to have the main application running on one hard drive (an SSD) and have the /Data/ folder(s) located on another hard drive (a larger HD)?

Yes you can set the Data Folder to whatever you want. Refer to:
General Settings Window: Data Files Folder (Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Files and Folder Paths)

And we recommend using an SSD rather than HDD for the data folder.

Ok, thanks. Has something recently changed to the way market data is downloaded from your servers or stored in SC? Is it no longer compressed? I had no problems in the past but now it takes at least a day to download data and the downloaded data fills up the HD 100% (then I have to delete all the data). I have the same amount of charts open as I did in the past and have actually reduced the amount of data on each chart.

Also, I have six instances open. Do I need to transfer each of the /Data/ folders to a different HD?

Is there a particular reason each instance has to have its own /Data/ folder? Surely, it would be much simpler and performant to have all the instances share one /Data/ folder on the main instance (like in TradeStation and MultiCharts)? There is duplicate data in each of the /Data/ folders which uses up HD space and you have to copy custom studies and chart setups from one instance to another. Very confusing and wastes a lot of time.

Concerning my last question. Because each instance has its own /Data/ folder and duplicates data/studies/study collections it means each of my /Data/ folders is around 50GB x 6 = 300GB

Nothing has changed. The data is downloaded in a compressed format and Intraday data files are compressed. Are you noticing the Intraday data files on your system are not compressed?

Regarding the last post above, with compression, that 300 GB is going to be one third the size. It is very difficult to maintain synchronization of data between instances of Sierra Chart if they are sharing the same data folder, because they operate independently from each other. And there is the advantage that you can do things like using a different Intraday Data Storage Time Unit between instances. And also storage space these days, relative to what Sierra Chart requires, is very available and low cost. 100 GB is not a problem even for solid-state drives.

Ok, I see. I changed the /Data/ path for all six instances but SC is saving data in both of the /Data/ folders (on the HD where the main SC application is running and the other HD). Do I need to delete the original /Data/ folders?

Yes you would have to delete the unused Data Folder you were using previously.

OK, I see. The folder path I set in 'General Settings > Data Files Folder' isn't saving. It reverts back to C:\SierraChart\SierraChartInstance_2\Data\, etc.. Is that because I haven't deleted the unused Data folders on the HD where SC is installed?

You need to uncheck this option to prevent that from happening:
General Settings Window: Always Use 'Data' Folder within Main Folder (Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Files and Folder Paths)

I had already unchecked that option. I have deleted the unused data folders but only the main instance folder is saving. The other five instances data paths, E:\SierraChart\2\Data\, etc.. are not saving and are reverting back to C:\SierraChart\SierraChartInstance_2\Data\, etc.. Something is broken in SC.

Ok, yes we do realize that is the case . That is done to ensure that users do not change the Data folder on sub instances.

You need to actually just move Sierra Chart over completely to another drive. So in your case, you would need to move Sierra Chart over to your E drive completely.
