Hi there SC, I have just updated my SC to version 963 as a message kept popping up saying this was advisable. I now have a message log that I keeps coming up and repeating the same message every second for each chart that I have up.

The dll studies worked fine on the prior version and now? I am getting constant warnings. The Irony is that with the new upgrade the old indicators are not showing on the chart now anyway, which is totally CRAP.

Please advise I am sure your going to send me here http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/helpdetails17.html&CAID= which in my opinion is a total cop out! I paid good money for my indicators and now you want me to send it back to my developer because you are upgrading your system! WHere is SC's responsibility in this?

Regards

We do not know why this would occur and the developer of the study would have to see what is causing the problem since they have access to the source code. It could be they just need to recompile the studies using an up-to-date header file. Generally that's not necessary but in rare condition sometimes depending upon what they are doing, that could be needed. And this would be indicated on the What's New page for the particular version where this became necessary:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/Whats_New.php

Go back to the prior Sierra Chart version you were using, stop using the studies, or contact the developer of them. To go back to a prior version select Help >> Install Previous Version.

Our only responsibility in this, is saying just what we said. The problem is resolvable and it involves the developer of the studies.

Hi Sierra Support,

I am wondering if you see the Irony in this?

I pay money to Sierra charts to use the latest software you have available. Yet if I have to continually update my indicators (at further expense) to make use of the latest software then this is not considered 'due client care' on your behalf.

Your advice is to either go back to a previous version, stop using the studies or pay further money to keep current with your software updates.... Does this really sit will with the management within Sierra charts? In my mind a user bringing studies that have worked prior should not have to continually update to stay current with the changes you make.

Lets put it in context.... I lease a car from a dealer, whom then make changes to the car (reliability, safety, user friendliness etc etc), I then as a user have to update my stereo, speaker system (whatever) so that now I can listen to music again?

Regards

We now have an idea what the problem is. This is from version 908 notes:

The internal functions used by the Zig Zag study have been rewritten and now are designed to conform with the ACSIL single step intermediate study calculation function standard. There are now the sc.ZigZag and sc.ZigZag2 functions in the ACSIL (Advanced Custom Study Interface and Language) which can be used with automatic looping (sc.AutoLoop = 1) study functions. They now need to be called within the "for" loop in manual looping study functions. If your study function is using either of the prior sc.ZigZag functions, you need to update your code to conform to the standard for calling an intermediate study calculation function when calling these functions and you must recompile your study on this version or higher. Otherwise, it will not function properly.

You have a completely incorrect perception about this. At this point all of this communication in your prior message is unnecessary. From our perspective none of what you say is meaningful to us. You do not have to continually update the studies. This is almost nearly a once-in-a-lifetime type of change involving a very small part of the program. We have identified the problem and have given instructions above.
