Sorry but this is not possible as it crashes before login
Ok. This would probably indicate, the problem is not something that is within our control.

Is the information given in post #48 helpful to you to get the latest 64-bit version running on your system?

Sure this works, parallels work too. But we are looking for a „free“ option with no extra yearly fee or massiv performance Impact do to VM.

We could still be installing windows via bootcamp but switching between systems is annoying - with 128gb ssd there aint be much left.

Well if u wanna use sierra with Mac with Wine we have to stick to 2163 (does the job just fine). Other than that buy parallels.

In regards to post #51, so it sounds like the problem is not strictly related to the 64-bit version but versions after 2163.

That is really neat. Did not know that there was a Mac OS named High Sierra. The name matches up with Sierra Chart.

Does Sierra Chart run well utilizing crossover? If you have experience With Sierra Chart on a high-performance Windows system we wonder how it compares.

Are you using CQG? You really have to be on a current version of Sierra Chart when using CQG for critical changes to support CQG historical data.

There is a problem with older versions not processing CQG tick data properly.

One workaround is that you can use the Sierra Chart Order Routing Service where you do not have to be on a current version:
Sierra Chart / Trading Technologies Futures Order Routing Service

We see you are with AMP. There is a form in the set up instructions on the page linked above that you need to complete for this.

We just cannot under any circumstances make assurances, when Sierra Chart works with external services to be supporting older versions since sometimes we have to force updates when there are critical updates to ensure proper compatibility with services. And we have put out an update notice for more than a month now. We are not going to back away from this.

We have temporarily allowed version 2163 for CQG but you do need to update sometime in the next two weeks or move to the Sierra Chart order routing service.

Thank you. I have bought Parallels. Works like a charm with the newest version.

Latest SC works just fine with CrossOver 20. I have created a video with instructions on how to install:

https://youtu.be/vMNR_8_MwDY

The only downside is that when you will need to update you will have to do it manually by using the ZIP files.

@Sierra Chart Engineering: not major but if you can compile and distribute SierraChartFileDownloader.exe as a 64bit binary the above problem could be solved :)

In general performance for me is fantastic. Lots of charts open, time based, tickcharts etc, multi monitor setup, all work great.

UnixManiac - Well this is interesting... Maybe 6 months ago I tested SC under the various options to run on a Mac. Parallels like I expected being a virtual machine was just too laggy for my liking so I ended up going the PC route. How does CrossOver 20 compare to Parallels in regards to performance? If memory serves me correct I couldn't get CrossOver to work on the latest version of MAC OS at the time so never got to test it and didn't want to drop back to an older OS version.

This is also why I created this video now, after I made sure the setup works as expected, indeed there were serious issues before.
Being running latest versions of SC with CrossOver since the official release of Big Sur. Performance wise it feels like running a native app. Parallels/fusion are just slow...

Regarding the video in post #63, what is the purpose of the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable 2010 package? It is not used by Sierra Chart. These packages have not been used by Sierra Chart for many years now.

And also the installation notes we see on the bottom of the Crossover Software Installer, is like from 5+ years ago. This crossover installation is so very out of date.

good to know! This was set as I requirement on their end, so its auto installed.

True, this is why I created this video as there are few specifics that will not work out of the box unless you select them with their software.

The most important is the need for a 64bit WINE bottle.

To make things fair, CrossOver is the only third-party software using WINE that has patched the bug so SC can work on MacOS with latest versions.

I will try to see if I can update the page they have with instructions etc. Make note though that I have no affiliation with codeweavers, I just use them to get the job done.

Performance near native is really impressive. I'll test it out on my Mac just to compare against the beast of a PC rig I just built ;-)

I'd be concerned about future compatibility Apple, Crossover, or SC upgrades anything that breaks the setup --> it could be months, years or never gets fixed and you're stuck from upgrading.

There would never be anything deliberately from Sierra Chart to cause a problem with using Sierra Chart with operating systems other than Windows.

We think the problems that have occurred in the past, would be related to us using a new version of Visual C++ that causes some unexpected issue that where the cause is unknown to us.

Or possibly using a particular operating system function that we have not used before but that is not something which would be common and actually the trend is using less operating system functions. There is a firm rule that we do not use anything other than the standard and most basic operating system functions. We do not use anything exotic. The only thing exotic relates to some code with the connection to CTS which we want to remove. Actually we probably should just go ahead and get that done now.

And then there is some exotic COM functions related to creating desktop shortcuts to Sierra Chart.

And we are moving in a direction of removing Microsoft code from the program most predominantly MFC and making sure all of the code does not contain anything Microsoft compiler specific. Removal of MFC simplifies the interface Sierra Chart has to the operating system which means there are less functions used so there is less potential for problem.

The removal of MFC will be finished before June 2021 and then we can begin to adapt Sierra Chart directly to Linux or perhaps we may just utilize WINE and get involved in working out the bugs that exist by fixing that code. That is another potential approach.

We really want to get to a point where we can tell Microsoft to go to hell. There are many big tech companies, which are definitively the enemy of the people, that are hell-bent, on literally killing and controlling people and Microsoft is one of them through their founder Bill Gates.

Now when we removed the 32-bit version we know that some users would be affected by this and this is a very tiny percentage, and those users just need to update their operating system to 64-bit.

Almost certainly their hardware is already 64-bit. So we do not think this really is creating an unsolvable issue. This removal of the 32-bit version was only recent in the year 2020 and now really everyone should be on a 64-bit operating system.

Our intent to remove the 32-bit version was to simplify the distribution of Sierra Chart and have all the custom study developers not having to be creating a 32 and 64-bit version of their custom studies. So it is designed to reduce the overall burden on everyone.

Yes some users are going to be inconvenienced, but this is a very very small percentage, and it is their responsibility since the removal of the 32-bit version to work on updating their operating system to a 64-bit version. This is not impossible. Even we are being pushed into server updates to newer Microsoft server operating systems which we do not like but we have done.

Actually this already happened, twice, with Apple and Wine... Apple first removing 32bit support, requiring workarounds to make Wine work and then later on Wine having that nasty bug that effects SC startup on MacOS and recent versions of SC. For the Wine bug it took almost a year to be fixed by codeweavers... Also last time I checked, manually compiling and using the latest development wine version does not solve the problem... So your concerns are valid for sure and need to be taken under consideration by anyone willing to use SC on MacOS.

I've been using Parallels on macOS for a long time with Windows 10 LTSC (the best, bloatware-free version of Windows) and was happy with the performance. Now I look forward to upgrading to Apple Silicone (ARM) and searching for options to use SierraChart. CrossOver already presented ARM version, so I gave it a shot, and it works. It's not better than Parallels + W10 LTSC, in my opinion. It works but eats way too much CPU for some reason.

Though, there is an issue with a data update. After the system restarts or disconnects, SierraChart automatically downloads missed data and append it. This doesn't work in CrossOver for some reason, and I'm forced to Delete and Download All Data every time I close my notebook. Does anybody know how I can fix this issue?
