Hello,

I received this email. I currently use the SC data feed executing through GAIN. Will I need to change my symbols or does the re-mapping on the back-end handle it? Will you be upgrading to their new API at the same time?

----------------------------------------
Symbol format to require two-digit year
Effective October 20, 2018, the GAIN Futures trading platform will prompt for a software update. We recommend that you perform this update.

The symbol format will change to the following:
Base Symbol + Month Code + Two-digit year

For example, the e-mini S&P format would change from ESU8 to ESU18.

If you are using third-party software, this change may not take place until the software vendor updates to our latest API version.

If you have any questions, please contact your Introducing Broker.

Sincerely,

GAIN Futures Client Services
----------------------------------------

Thanks,
Kevin

Since we did not get any notice from Gain Capital, it would seem as though Sierra Chart is not going to be affected by this.

We need to ask them about this.

Hello,

Getting a "unknown symbol" message. Looks like it is effecting SC. Should I just change the symbol to esZ18 and hope for the best?

I will say this.. If this is the fault of GAIN not notifying Sierra Chart in advance (because I was only notified late last week) then GAIN will hear it from me. That would not be acceptable or good business. I just cannot imagine Sierra Chart not have taken care of this in advance if they had know, their customer service is good.

I am using the SC data feed and tested a sell limit bracket order on the ESZ8 contract and it showed up in the Gain Capital platform with ESZ18. I then canceled the order from the Gain platform and it disappeared from Sierra. This may be because of the remapping going on from the SC feed to Gain, but only speculating.

I would imagine if you are using the Gain data, changing your symbols should be all that is needed, but again, try and see and report back. Hopefully the Sierra team gets a confirmation from Gain on when/how/if the FIX connection will need changed.

Now it works if you change the symbol to include the 2 digit year. However, I'm not able to execute any orders through Sierra

Are you saying change the symbol manually by adding a 1 - and would I have to do this for every chart manually?

You will have to add in the 1 to make the year 18 for each chart but the new symbols will not backfill any data. hope they fix that!

I just did that for a chart and yep no historical data. Without historical references I cannot trade.

We have not yet contacted Gain Capital about the change to two digit years in futures symbols, and we did not think that the FIX server was affected because they never told us about that but clearly it is.

Even if we did get an answer about this, it would take us a couple of days to implement a solution anyway. And the first we heard of this was a couple of days ago. We will have this all solved by morning. A software update is going to be required and that will automatically update your symbols. And we will also put out a System Notification message about this.

For now you can change the symbol of the chart to two digits as explained here:
Changing the Symbol of a Chart

We also need to verify the historical data is going to be downloaded for two digit years. Possibly, but we need to see.

And while we generally have a very fast turnaround time and can move sometimes even within a few hours, we should not be hearing about this from users two days before it happens.

And based upon what they said in their email it did not seem as though the FIX server would have been affected because they mentioned an API update (If you are using third-party software, this change may not take place until the software vendor updates to our latest API version.) and there was no mention of any changes in their FIX specification so logically this is a non-issue.

They should have put out a 60 days notice with something like this.

So here it is Sunday evening we are setting aside all of our programming tasks, including working on trade statistics and having to do this instead.

We have unfortunate news here and maybe you already realize this. We have now tried to use a two digit year in the symbol but still do not receive real-time data. So at this point Gain Capital needs to get this resolved. We are contacting them now about this.

If you are receiving real-time data from Gain Capital when using a two digit year in the futures symbol, let us know.

We have now updated the symbol settings.

We have contacted Gain Capital about this. And are awaiting their response. At the moment we have added in historical data which is current as of this Sunday evening but it is not updating.

This is what I tried. I entered and tried the Demo (SIM) Account credentials. When I add the 2 digit code it updates and shows all the data for this evening so far but NO historical data. It is also updating real time.

Second observation. When I leave the data set to the 1 digit code it is updating live but also the data for this evening is only as far back as when the Sierra was opened and the chart was active (when the chartbook containing charts is opened). SO at this point I have a gap in data from when I started Sierra. If you exit or close the chartbook and reopen with the 1 digit code all the data for this evening (since the change in the date code) is lost and the program starts collecting data from there. So the solution imo is (if historical data is needed at this point - which it is for me) open the chartbook and DO NOT close it or exit Sierra. I will have to see tomorrow morning if this behavior continues.

Also hoping I get no issues where Sierra or my system hangs and I have to close Sierra - then all relevant data since the change will be lost.

Okay maybe on the simulation server you are able to get real-time data but certainly with the production server you cannot.

In regards to historical data we are aware of that limitation and we have told Gain Capital about it. We are going to update it as of this moment.

Actually looks like Gain Capital has resolved the real-time data issue. We are now seeing the real-time data on the production server and historical data is now up-to-date.

Historical for how far. I did the delete and download and the data goes no further back than this evening and about 1-1/2 hours further.

I have 30 days to load. http://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1540176030701.png

Also when I look at the symbols under Find Symbols the data code is still one digit.

Follow the instructions here to update the Symbol Settings:

Then:
Re-download all the data in the chart by going to the chart and selecting "Edit >> Delete All Data and Download".

And also you need to be sure that the symbol of the chart has a two digit year:

Thank you for your fast response. I'll be renaming my file names. Looks like SC will do the rest once you update your symbol settings.

Still not Working and the 2 digit date is not in the Symbol list
This indicates some problem with the requesting of symbol settings. At this point we recommend performing a Full Reset instead:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/GlobalSymbolSettings.php#FullResetSymbolSettingsSteps

The two digit year symbol settings must be present in order for the historical data request to be routed properly. Otherwise, it goes to the gain capital server and you are only going to get about an hour of data. That is the problem.
