For all the years I've been using SC I was able to right-click to cancel out of a drawing tool. ie when drawing a Ray right-click instead of clicking the second draw point and it goes back to crosshairs, exiting out of drawing mode. This feature has been removed as of two or three releases ago from the current 1785. Now I have to plot the second point and then right-click the ray and select "Erase Drawing." Is there a setting where I can get the old functionality back? I'm always drawing rays or parallel lines and I really miss this feature. Thank you.

This feature has definitely NOT been removed. It is still there and functioning. We use it every day ourselves.

Check to see if the option Global Settings >> Tool Settings >> Support Drag for Drawing Creation/Modification has been turned on (selected). When this option is selected, then if you click down and drag your pointer prior to letting up on the button, then it will interpret that as the drawing.

I don't think you understand -- I don't mean dragging a drawing I mean exiting out of drawing mode once a drawing tool has been selected. Like if I click Tools >> Ray and then right-click, this used to cancel the Ray drawing completely but instead now I get the chart shortcut window with a checkmark next to Ray. From here I can select any other shortcut but the only way to cancel out of the drawing is to actually draw it on the chart and then right-click it to "Erase Drawing".

Or you can select the Hand or Pointer tool (whichever you normally use), if you have them included in your Chart Shortcut Menu ...
Not what you want but may be a workaround?

Yes this was removed and it will not be put back. There is no logic to such a feature. If you select a drawing tool, just simply change to a different one . This is all. This is not about actually initiating a drawing and wanting to cancel the initiation of a drawing. That already exists. What you are describing is merely just selecting a drawing tool but not using it.

There are keyboard shortcuts and control bar buttons which can be used to select drawing tools.

Thanks LDog, that helps.

This has been asked about again:
right click to exit drawing

The reason this functionality was removed, is because it was not logical behavior and had side effects and was causing unexpected behavior for some users.

So what we are going to do is add a separate option for it.
