Hello, I have recently set up alerts to email me upon certain conditions. I am having the email forwarded to me as a text. The trouble is the text from the alert log is longer than what a text message can support. The last third of the info is therefore not seen in the text message version. Is there a way I can edit what the alert log sends me? Can I change the order of the info it sends. The real piece of info I need happens to be at the very end as it turns out.

Thank you for your help

We do need to make the content of the Alert messages customizable. Can you tell us what part of the alert message you are looking for so we can see if we can offer a solution immediately or if it is something we need to add later. And we will know what particular subparts users are looking to customize.

I uploaded this image, hopefully it contains the alert log.

Also, I had my dev play with this function which worked in the sense that I was able to generate buy and sell alerts however, they do not include the chart header info, symbol, chart # etc.
sc.AddAlertLine()

You can see at the very end it says Alert: buy

That does not show up on the text msg. Again, I'm having the alert emailed and then forwarded using phonenumber@vtex.com

It seems like the text messages have a limit as to how many characters come through. This seems odd in itself because I have looked through my personal text messages and found messages that are much longer so I'm not really sure what the problem is. Let me know how to upload an image from my phone screen if this helps. The complete alert log does show up in the email. Thank you

I never got a response to this support request. Did you guys make progress on the ability to customize alert text? Is there some bit of information I failed to supply?

Thank you

We are doing some testing now. No, we have not yet gotten to the task for customizing alerts. We do not know when we can get to it.

We tested a study alert as documented here:
Study/Chart Alerts And Scanning: To Enter an Alert Condition on a Study

And this is an example email message:

Alert - Chart: YMM18 Daily #1 | Study: Aroon Indicator | Formula: =1 is TRUE. | Last Price: 25192 | Bar start date-time: 2018-06-07 00:00:00 | Alert: [User-defined name] (8)

You can see it is the full text. If it is getting cut off, that is going to be something you need to resolve from your side. It is definitely not happening through our systems and software.

If you use the function sc.AlertWithMessage, this will be the email message:
Message from sc.AlertWithMessage | Chart: YMM18 Daily #1 | Study: Test Function 5 | Alert: [User-defined name] (8)

Once again this is the actual text.

Hello and thank you for the response. I agree that the problem is not your software or system. The email alerts work fine for me. The issue I'm having is that I'm having the email forwarded to me as a text. For whatever reason the whole message does not come through. The end gets cut off. As it turns out the bit of information I really need is at the end. You guys had mentioned the need to make the alerts editable. This was mentioned in this post. Here is a quote

"We do need to make the content of the Alert messages customizable. Can you tell us what part of the alert message you are looking for so we can see if we can offer a solution immediately or if it is something we need to add later. And we will know what particular subparts users are looking to customize. "

If I could edit the alert text I could shorten it and this would provide me with a work around. Thank you for your support.

Keep in mind, SMS text messages have a limit of 160 characters. Modern phones do have the ability to break longer texts into pieces and send them as multiple texts, which are then reassembled on the receiving end. Since this is an email being converted to a text by the carrier, we are pretty sure that it does not do the breaking/receiving and therefore you are limited to the 160 characters.

Customization of alert messages is something that will come later. We cannot do anything now in the short term. But do have a look at this particular setting which may do what you want:
General Settings Window: Use User Defined Name Only in Alert Message (Global Settings >> General Settings >> Alerts >> User Defined Name)
