I have about 8 chartbooks that I review together, toggling through each of them throughout the day. But I am having to load each of them one by one. Is there a way I can group them all together and, instead, load them all into one 'group'?

Yes this can be done through this setting: General Settings Window: Select Files to Open On Startup (Global Settings >> General Settings >> General >> Startup) There is also File >> Open All. That only works when opening on Startup. But I want to close out that grouped chartbook and open another group. How can I do that? I need chartbook 'groups'.

There is no such thing as a Chartbook group in Sierra Chart.

As we have indicated, through that link, we cannot take any new programming tasks now. But as an alternative look at using multiple instances of Sierra Chart: Using DTC Server for Data and Trading in Another Sierra Chart Instance Use an instance for each Chartbook group you want. There is no such thing as a Chartbook group in Sierra Chart.
It's now 2019, I'm on build 1864, and see "Open chartbook group" in the file menu. Is there documentation for this anywhere? |

No not yet but it is quite simple in the way that it works. And you need to use version 1864 for the complete implementation. In the /Data/ChartbookGroups/ folder, create folders for the different Chartbook groups that you want. And then place the Chartbooks within those folders which you want to open as a group. You can then open the Chartbook's as a group within those folders through File >> Open Chartbook Group. They will all be listed there. Additionally the Chartbook control bar buttons also support opening Chartbook groups. Simply set a button to [Chartbook group name].group Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. There was a problem we needed to resolve related Chartbook Groups which prevented them from being opened. This is resolved in the latest revision of 1864 . So if you have already updated to 1864, go ahead and do that again with Help >> Download Prerelease.

is there an option to disable closing current chartbooks when opening a new chartbook group?

It's now 2019, I'm on build 1864, and see "Open chartbook group" in the file menu.
Four year later there is "Open chartbook group" but not "New chartbook group" yet. In the /Data/ChartbookGroups/ folder, create folders for the different Chartbook groups that you want. And then place the Chartbooks within those folders which you want to open as a group.
I've created eight folders and filled them with the relevant chartbooks. It took a very bit of time... is there an option to disable closing current chartbooks when opening a new chartbook group?
It seems no yet, and it's a real waste of time. Also, we'd need maybe a couple of the chartbooks belonging to a certain group, but at present we've to open all of them and then close the unneeded ones one by one. And what if we need to open in the same session, say, two ETF and one index among all the ETFs and indexes, belonging to different groups? ? |

just ran into similar issues. would have been nice if shortcuts to chartbooks could be placed in 'group' folders so the actual chartbook would be in the 'data' folder, and a shortcut to it could be placed in any/all relevant 'group' folders. luckily, "symbolic links" worked instead. after adding the 'symlinks', chartbooks residing in the 'data' folder can now be accessed from more than one group without the headache of maintaining duplicate chartbooks, and if a chartbook is no longer needed in a group, the symlink in that group's folder can be deleted without affecting the original chartbook (be careful with this! https://superuser.com/questions/167076/how-can-i-delete-a-symbolic-link-in-windows). to create 'symlinks', use something like "Link Shell Extension" (https://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html), or create them manually at the command line using 'mklink' (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/mklink).
