Hello SC Team,

One Chartbook was created with one instance of SC (same version), later that Charbook was copied to a folder where another instance of SC lies. This instance works well and sends mail alerts w/o any problems, however when I opened copied Chartbook in this instance and got an alert from the chart (using spreadsheet), it could not be sent, please see the message from the error log:

HTTP request #4 returned the following error: Windows error code 12152: The server returned an invalid or unrecognized response | 2013-08-13 11:43:30
HTTP request #1 returned the following error: Windows error code 12152: The server returned an invalid or unrecognized response | 2013-08-13 11:43:30
Unable to e-mail the Alert notification due to an error. | 2013-08-13 11:43:30
HTTP request #2 returned the following error: Windows error code 12002: The operation timed out | 2013-08-13 12:33:30
Unable to e-mail the Alert notification due to an error. | 2013-08-13 12:33:30
HTTP request #2 returned the following error: Windows error code 12002: The operation timed out | 2013-08-13 13:31:31

also, after that alert, I received an alert from the Chartbook which was always opened in this SC instance and alert was sent successfully.
as far as I understand the email address specified in one place - Global Settings - General Settings - General 1 tab.
could you please suggest some solution?

Thank you

I cannot see any issues with the sending of alert emails. Please makes sure that no firewall is blocking that Sierra Chart instance.

These HTTP errors could not be specific to any particular Chartbook. There is some HTTP communication problem from your system. Usually this kind of error is due to a firewall:
HTTP request #2 returned the following error: Windows error code 12002: The operation timed out

This kind of error we have never seen before and it seems to be related to data getting corrupted somewhere along the network:

HTTP request #4 returned the following error: Windows error code 12152: The server returned an invalid or unrecognized response

For help with HTTP errors, refer to:

When I tried to send an email to my cellphone using 1510XXXXXXX@tmomail.net from the Alert setup ( thru Global setting), I get this error.

Alert email error: To receive Alert notification messages at 1510XXXXXXX@tmomail.net, contact Sierra Chart support.

However, I am able to receive emails to my yahoo account.
Also, I tested sending an email from my yahoo email to my t-mobile cellphone and it works.

It fails only from the Sierra charts.

Can you please help?

I would really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot.

Raj

Alert emails to tmomail.net are not allowed because tmomail.net is blocking the messages.

Look at using the SMS message capability Sierra Chart now offers:
https://www.sierrachart.com/usercp.php?page=SMS

You can set Sierra Chart to use SMS messages for any Alert Number through Global Settings >> General Settings >> Alerts.

And no, we are not deliberately causing this problem because we want to earn money from SMS messages. We do not earn any money on these messages. Actually we only lose money on the service.

Email Messages from the Sierra Chart Alert Server to tmomail.net are being blocked by tmomail.net. Because of this we have disabled sending alerts to the tmomail.net domain name.

I've requested T-Mobile allow emails to be sent from alerts@sierracharts.com to the tmomail.net domain since these emails are legitimate, customer generated traffic.

A T-Mobile engineer has looked into it, says it should now work, and has asked that I generate an email from Sierra Charts for testing purposes. Since T-Mobile is open to receiving messages from the Sierra Chart server, is it possible to turn emails to tmomail.net back on?

Thanks

The domain has been un-blocked, but be aware that when we start getting errors from the T-Mobile servers we will have to block the domain again.

Thanks. I'll contact the engineer today and will be testing with them to get this function working.

I've been able to contact T-Mobile engineering and have also escalated to the T-Mobile Executive Response Team. At this point test messages I've generated are still being blocked but both groups have assured me they would follow up on the problem.

We have blocked the domain again, as all 264 attempts to send emails to the domian were blocked by the tmomail.net email server.

Two different T-Mobile engineers have been looking into this. I have been generating alerts, but they are not seeing them come into their server. I have the email address of the engineer. Is it possible to forward them a copy of the error message you are receiving on your server?

There is nothing that we can do from our end. You can forward them the following:

May 27 19:24:45 - connect to mm3.tmomail.net[66.94.9.228]:25: Connection timed out
May 27 19:24:45 - 5E7CE7C160E: to=<XXXXXXXXX@tmomail.net>, relay=none, delay=30, delays=0.09/0/30/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to mm3.tmomail.net[66.94.9.228]:25: Connection timed out)

As you can see we are blocked by their email server, or the email server that their DNS is returning is offline.

Tmobile is asking if there is any additional SMTP rejection code information within your server's EHLO log. Can you even ping the mm3.tmomail.net server?

If there are no SMTP errors at all and you can't ping their server, your IP address is probably being blocked in T-Mobile's network. That would explain why the engineer I'm working with doesn't even see a connection attempt.

Thanks

There will be nothing in EHLO, as the connection is timing out meaning that we are not getting any response from the servers.

And we cannot ping them from our email servers.

Since this is apparently a network problem T-Mobile is asking for a traceroute. That should tell us if the packets are getting to their network at all and, if not, where they are being blocked.

From T-Mobile:

We don’t place blocks at F5 level where the FQDN resides. Please have them provide a full traceroute to mm3.tmomail.net

traceroute to mm3.tmomail.net (66.94.25.228), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

Hi,

T-Mobile engineering continues to work on enabling Sierra Chart messages to tmomail.net. They have confirmed that messages from the Sierra Chart email server have not been blocked within the tmomail.net server. The problem seems to be occurring somewhere before the packets even reach that T-Mobile server.

The engineer is currently looking at their network configuration. If he can't find a problem he will be downloading the Sierra Chart software (assuming that's acceptable) and generating alerts from within the T-Mobile corporate lab next week.

Will it be possible to again temporarily enable messaging to tmomail.net next week if required for testing?

Thanks

Rather than them downloading Sierra Chart it would be best that they contact us at support@SierraChart.com and we will set up a test script which can send test messages to their network that they can monitor for.

At that time we can enable the alert messages.

That is a much better option. I will pass the information to the engineer.
