Why don't main instance and sub-instances share the same data folder?

Well first I'm gonna describe my situation cause I'm probably missing something

My problem is that I have too many chartbooks so I thought I would use two instances only for "organizing purposes": one instance for futures and another one for forex.
So I used the function "File -> New Instance" which created a sub-instance in the same folder.

Is this the way to go or there's a better solution for my problem?

Now I'm finding this kinda messy. Some assets won't load well in my subinstance charts so I need to load them in my main instance first. Then I need to load them in my subinstance chartbooks and finally delete them (manually) from the main data folder to avoid duplicates.

This is so laborious and if you are not careful you can end up with a big chunk of duplicated data. Why not just share the same data folder for main instance and subinstances? It's much more simple and I just don't see any disadvantage in that.

This does not tell us anything. We need specifics. However, refer to this documentation:

Then I need to load them in my subinstance chartbooks and finally delete them (manually) from the main data folder to avoid duplicates.
Do not delete any of the historical chart data files in the main instance since they are relied upon by the sub instances.

You are making this more complicated than it needs to be. It is not within the scope of our support to answer the second question.

If I don't delete any of the historical chart data files in the main instance, then I'm gonna have everything duplicated since the sub-instance needs to have the data for its own charts in its own folder.

So that's the way it's supposed to be? All the sub-instance data files have to be duplicated?

I have more than 40 GBs of forex intraday data and I'm expecting to trade more pairs in the future. I only trade forex in my sub-instance, so I really see no point in having all forex data duplicated.

As I said I'm only using two instances to organize my large number of chartbooks. There must be a better way to do this without any duplicated data?

Data sharing is not possible with sub instances. There are way too many complications.

We do plan to improve upon how historical data is downloaded from one instance to another in order to support a full re-download from a sub instance and triggering a full re-download in the main instance.

Also 40 gigabytes of data will be compressed much smaller and the data is compressed. So it is not actually occupying that much space. With the size of storage devices and even including the size of SSDs, these sizes have minimal relevancy.
