Hey, I had a question about chart overlays/custom studies. Is there a way to display the live price of a different symbol on a chart without opening a full secondary chart or showing candles? For example, I’d like to have the VIX price displayed directly on my ES chart as just a floating/updating price value that moves in real time as the market changes. Kind of similar to a time overlay or label on the chart — not necessarily attached to the price scale on the right side, and without plotting an actual candlestick chart. Basically: * Use another symbol’s live price (ex: VIX) * Display only the current price value * Allow positioning it anywhere on the chart * No candles or separate subgraph needed Is something like this possible in CI Charts, either natively or through a custom study? Thanks! |

There is not a way to do EXACTLY what you are asking for. To do what you want, you do need to have the data for the other symbol available somehow. You do not need to display it, but it does need to be available. The easiest way to do this would be to use the "Add Additional Symbol" study to the chart where you want to see the price. Set the symbol for the "Add Additional Symbol" to be the symbol for the data you want view. Hide the "Add Additional Symbol" study. Refer to the following: Add Additional Symbol Add the "Text Display for Study" to the chart and set this to reference the "Last/Close" price of the "Add Additional Symbol" study. Place the display of that information where you want it. Refer to the following: Text Display For Study For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

Hi John, thank you for the explanation earlier — that helped a lot. I had a few follow-up questions regarding VIX symbols/data in Sierra Chart: 1. Which VIX symbol is the closest equivalent to TradingView’s `VX1!` continuous front-month VIX futures contract? From the symbols available under CFE, I currently see: * `VX?##-CFE` * `VX?##-CFE | S&P 500 VIX` * `VXM?##-FUT_CFE` * `VXM?##-CFE | S&P 500 Mini VIX` * Also, VIX_CGI under CBOE Global Indexes For example, `ESM6` is the current contract while `ES1!` is the continuous front-month ES contract on TradingView. So I’m trying to understand: * Which symbol in Sierra behaves most similarly to `VX1!` * Whether it automatically rolls to the next front-month contract as expiration approaches * Or if I would need to manually change contract months myself 2. Data/feed questions: * Is the VIX futures data included with the standard Denali package? * Or does CFE/VIX futures require an additional exchange subscription? * If I do not subscribe, will the data still appear delayed? * If delayed, approximately how delayed is it (10 min / 15 min / etc.)? 3. One last question regarding “Text Display for Study”: I was able to get the value displayed on the chart, but it currently only shows whole numbers (example: `19` instead of `19.14`). Is there a setting somewhere to control the number of decimals displayed in the text output? Thanks again. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2026-05-13 12:39:52

1. From what you state, it sounds like you would want the VIX Futures. In this case, you would use the symbol of "VX?##_FUT_CFE" for the VIX or "VXM?##_FUT_CFE" for the Mini VIX. There is no difference between "VX?##_FUT_CFE" and "VX?##-CFE". They are just different formats to get the same data. But, whatever format you use, you need to be consistent with the VIX Futures data. So you can not have one chart with "VXM26_FUT_CFE" and another chart with "VXM26-CFE". Refer to the following for how to setup a chart to be a Continuous Futures Contract chart: Continuous Futures Contract Charts But, we really do not know for certain if you want the VIX Futures or the VIX Index. The VIX Index is the symbol "VIX_CGI". But since this is an Index, it does not have monthly contracts, which is why we think you are really looking for the VIX Futures. 2. The VIX Futures are NOT included with the package. You need to setup and pay for this data. Follow the instructions at the following link for how to setup the exchange: Denali Exchange Data Feed: *Setup Instructions: All Other Exchanges* The VIX Futures data is available as Delayed Streaming Data. This is available with any paid package and is free of charge. The data is delayed by 15 minutes in this case. 3.
