I have been noticing very delayed startup of Sierra v2882 ( actually before that, but that is what I am running now), and intense data lag during large volume news events. I am using Sierra's Teton data and Dorman as a broker. I have used Sierra for many years, I can't remember when I started but maybe 2015? And throughout I have just added to my Chartbook, added to my ACS .cpp files, created custom .dll files, created numerous ACS buttons and functions, etc. I want to preserve that information as much as possible, but am feeling like a clean install of Sierra Chart might be the best way to see what the issue is. I have read about the files I need to to save and what they do. But still nervous :) Any advice on; 1) Making sure this re-install is clean and unaffected by my existing install, and 2) the order of adding files back to Sierra before I start? |

We do not recommend a "Clean Install". There is no reason to do this. To start with, we recommend going through the following to clear out old symbols that may be in the system, along with files that may be associated with those symbols: Chart Data and Chart Data Files: Cleaning Up Old and Unused Symbols for Efficiency Then, go through the items at the following link for ways to improve performance: High CPU Usage | Inactive User Interface | Poor Performance | Long Time to Load Chart Data | Charts Reloading Often -- If you really want to do a "clean install", then refer to the information at the following link: Transferring Sierra Chart Settings and Data From Existing Installation to New Installation For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

ok. I have used Sierra long enough to understand and already implement most of what you provided. This is the first time I have seen "The ultimate solution is use a separate solid-state drive for Sierra Chart. And an additional solid-state drive for the Data Files Folder. So the Data Files Folder should have its own solid-state drive. In this solution, you will have a total of two additional solid-state drives on your computer system." That is doable.. I do use a lot of Study Price Overlays, but do not have any circular references. I have 8 chart windows open max, and only references to 6 charts, and only for for EMAs. I'll look into my custom studies for efficiency, I am not familiar with that. I only load data necessary for the indicators on that chart. For example, if I have a 300ema on a 1 minute chart, I limit the date range to whatever is required for 2x absolute necessity. I keep an XLS to work that out for me, but date ranges are set per chart for max efficiency already. On Daily charts obviously to run say an 600EMA requires a good date range (1200 days), but bar count is reduced accordingly. In my understanding that affects total data size? I know it does for data exports. I do try to maintain Sierra Data, and limit to minimum reasonable requirements. I'll dig into what you sent. Thanks. |
