Data stops loading into specific charts

Hello, I have a chartbook with multiple symbols. The chartbook is not new and has worked flawlessly for a long time. I have not changed anything - same machine, same Internet connection, same data service (Teton for futures execution, Denali for everything else). Charts (including price, volume bars, PNF charts, profiles, ladders) for 2 of the symbols in the book stop updating sometime during the day. They simply stop moving and the time axis shows that timestamp as of the last update. Once stalled, they do not come back. The weird thing is that other charts in same chartbook for other symbols keep updating. The only way I can get the data updated is by forcing a full reload via edit / delete all data and download. This brings it current. Until the next session where they stop downloading data and updating again. Reload and recalculate does not work. Only delete and download. This particular chartbook is heavy, but it has been working well for a long time until recently. The problem isn't intermittent. It started happening every day. The only other thing I can say is that not always, but on most days, the updates appear to continue during the overnight session, but appear to fail after the cash session starts, so maybe it has something to do with the speed of incoming data or throughput? I have another chartbook open that is even heavier in another instance of SC on the same computer and that one doesn't have this issue, including for the same symbols that fail in the first chartbook. Therefore the issues does not appear to be primarily due to the machine, the overall SC setup, or even those specific symbols because I'm getting the same data for them without interruption in the other SC instance. |

Based upon what we read, this could be related to a corrupt or damaged Intraday data file. Run a check disk on the drive used for Sierra Chart data files: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/chkdsk To know what drive is being used, refer to: General Settings Window: Data Files Folder (Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Files and Folder Paths) When you notice the problem go to the chart and select Window >> Current Quote Window. Do you see price changes there? Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Try to keep your questions brief and to the point. Check disk is clean. There are no issues with the machine. Most of the item on currently no data link are N/A b/c this symbol and these charts have been working all along. The Current quote window does not show price changes or price at all. It shows all zeros. The only thing I can think of is this. Create new instance. Copy problem chart book to new instance. Create new blank chart book in the new instance. Copy charts one at a time to from old chart book to new blank one and test to try to figure out which one(s) exactly are causing the issue. Then recreate those from scratch. Very labor-intensive sledgehammer but not sure what else to do.

If you open a new chart for one of those same symbols, does it work properly? Does "Window >> Current Quote Window" show updates or is it all zeros as well?

We can also rule out the machine empirically because another SC instance on the same drive has charts and profiles for the same symbol and that chart book / instance does not have the data loading issue. Can I maybe delete and reset the .scid file for the problem symbol and instance? These are all intraday charts. And the ones with data loading issues are quite large. They're based on full session very small timeframe-equivalent though they are not time-based charts. The profiles don't load either though and since profiles and charts share the same .scid file as data source, could deleting the .scid file and rebuilding be a fix?

Deleting the .scid file would be our suggestion if you open a brand new chart and have the same issue. To do this, you need to exit from that installation of Sierra Chart (make sure you do not have any sub-instances running that are associated with that installation). And then you can delete the .scid file and start Sierra Chart again. If you have a lot of data to be loaded into the charts, then you will most likely need to go to one chart for each symbol and change the "Chart >> Chart Settings >> Data Limiting >> Date Range in File From" to go back far enough so that all the charts for that symbol can have access to the data. You do not need to do this for every chart, just one chart for each symbol - the other charts will update automatically once the data is downloaded. After you change the "Date Range in File From" and select "OK" to close the Chart Settings window, you will be prompted if you want to download data going back to whatever date you entered. Be sure to answer "Yes" to this. Once the data is downloaded, then hopefully you will be fine.
