Hello

I have been working the last 3 days without success in trying to get entries fire at the desired brick on a Renko system being implemented on the spreadsheet study for trading.

Chart Renko Bricks with WIcks
Renko Bar New Bar Mode: tried several and issue still happening.
Study: Spreadsheet study for trading
Signal Only on Bar Close: Yes
Studies: Renko Visual Open/CLose

on column P there is a formula that calculates the direction of the brick Up, Down Flat =IF(AF3 > AE3, "Up", IF(AF3 < AE3, "Down", "Flat"))

the direction is used to determine a pattern

if the pattern is true then Buy entry signal. On Column K =AND(O3=1,P7="Up",P6="Up",P5="Down",P4="Up",P3="Up")

A green arrow appears on the bar where the condition of the pattern is met.

But the entry happens one bar later. I have tried with limit orders also but no change, What am I missing?

Please check attachment.

Also tried to use ID0.sg22@3 and ID0.Sg23@3 without luck on the spreadsheet.
ANd noticed that previous close and present open do not always align on the spreadsheet using The renko visual open close study

The option "Signal Only on Bar Close" actually means to signal when the next bar starts, as the system does not know the bar has closed until then. Therefore, what you are seeing is correct due to your having set that option to "Yes".

We are not sure what you are referring to with this. Keep in mind that the Renko Open and Renko Close are different values than the standard Open and Close, therefore, if you are comparing to the Open/Close within the Spreadsheet, then those are not the proper values. Refer to the following:

John , Thank you very much for the prompt response, but allow me to rephrase

It is required to the Spreadsheet System for Trading to fire the Buy Entry on the same Renko brick where the pattern completes (Or in the immediate open of the next new brick)

With “Signal Only On Bar Close = YES”, the signal fires one brick later, because the spreadsheet only evaluates the bar after the next bar begins.

With “Signal Only On Bar Close = NO”, the signal fires intrabar at the wrong price because Renko Close is the “last traded price” and not the Renko brick close.

I am completely aware that the standard Open/Close values are different from the Renko Open/Close provided by the “Renko Visual Open/Close” study. However, using the Renko Open/Close values (IDX.SG22 / IDX.SG23) to determine if a brick is bullish or bearish does not always give the expected result, because the Renko Open/Close only update when the brick completes, and the previous brick close is not always equal to the next brick open.

My questions:

What is the correct and reliable way to determine inside the Spreadsheet whether the current Renko brick is bullish or bearish?

What is the best way to place an order immediately after a trading rule is fulfilled at the close of the last brick that confirms the rule, so that the order is placed at the open of the next brick, without using ACSIL?

This is up to you. In terms of how Sierra Chart is going to do it, it depends on how you have the Renko bars setup. Refer to the information at the following link for some insight into how this is done:

With the option for "Signal Only on Bar Close" set to "Yes", you should be getting the order placed when the next brick opens, assuming that your condition is still true at that time.

Are you not seeing this as being the case? If not, then what exactly is occurring?

Use this example in row 3 of a spare Formula Column, e.g. T3:
=IF(OR(ID2.SG2@3>ID2.SG1@3,AND(ID2.SG1@3>ID2.SG2@4,ID2.SG1@3=ID2.SG2@3)),1, IF(OR(ID2.SG2@3<ID2.SG1@3,AND(ID2.SG1@3<ID2.SG2@4,ID2.SG1@3=ID2.SG2@3)),-1,T4))
where ID2 is the Renko Visual Open/Close Values study.
This is based on this example:
Spreadsheet Example Formulas and Usage: Formula that Matches the Coloring of Up and Down Price Bars

What is the best way to place an order immediately after a trading rule is fulfilled at the close of the last brick that confirms the rule, so that the order is placed at the open of the next brick, without using ACSIL?
When a Renko bar is being built, it displays the actual O/C. When the bar is complete and a new one starts, the previous bar displays the Renko O/C.
Try using the above example to determine the bar direction.

This is another thing I do when using Renko bars:
I put these OHLC formulas in these columns, then reference them instead of columns B,C,D,E:
AB3: =IF(ROW()=3,B3,ID2.SG1@3)
AC3: =C3
AD3: =D3
AE3: =IF(ROW()=3,E3,ID2.SG2@3)
- Where ID2 is the Renko Visual Open/Close Values study.
- Using these columns makes it easy to remember which one to reference, because of the similarity.

Thank you for the clarification.

Regarding the “Signal Only on Bar Close = Yes” behavior, I can confirm that the Spreadsheet System for Trading does not consistently place the order at the open of the next brick after the pattern is fulfilled.

This is not happening 100% of the time.

In many cases the entry is correct, but in other cases the Buy Entry is triggered 1, 2, 3 or more bricks late, even though the pattern was fully confirmed on the correct brick. This inconsistency causes trades that should be winners to become losing trades.

Additionally, the entry price is not always respecting the Renko brick close where the Buy Entry should be placed. Sometimes the entry is higher than the correct brick close, which is the most problematic case, and sometimes it is lower. This happens even when using Limit orders.

I am providing screenshots and cases where the entry price is not placed at the correct brick close showing:

correct executions,

very late executions,

mixed executions,

In the worst examples, it seems that the speed at which the bricks print during replay may influence the timing. I have tested replay speeds of 10, 30, 120, and 240, all with “Calculate Same as Real Time”, and the results are the same: sometimes correct, sometimes late.

Please advise what could cause this inconsistent timing behavior when using Spreadsheet System for Trading with Renko bars.

Thank you.

Note: I am not Support, I'm only a user.

Try setting 'Strict Signal Only On Bar Close Evaluation' to Yes.

I have used Renko bars with the Spreadsheet System for Trading study, and I've not witnessed what you see.
I suspect it has something to do with your entry formulas.

If you'd like me to take a closer look, you may DM me.
