Idea for a new tool

Hello Sierra Charts,

Well done on a great software program. I've used it daily for a few months.

I have a request for a tool that I believe futures traders would find very useful. If there's one that already exists that I'm not seeing please let me know.

It's a Price Grid.

Transposing the SPY price to futures price is easily done BUT marking all of those price levels, which change daily, on each chart is time-consuming and tedious. I use the 30,15,5 and 1 minute charts and a Price Grid tool would make it very, very much quicker and easier.

The first price would be set at a chosen price on the futures chart.

example: 675 at 6768.50

Then choose how many lines are in the Grid (the range). If 10 was chosen then there would be 10 lines above and 10 below the starting point.

Then choose the distance between each line. 10 points in this example.

All of these lines are locked together. When any given line in the grid is selected and moved all of the Grid lines also move correspondingly.

Similar to the existing horizontal line tool, each line has independent text so the SPY price can be marked/indicated.

Simply put, it's several lines locked together. Move one and it moves all.

I don't know if requests and feedback are appropriate but thought I'd throw it out there. It would be sooooo nice to have this.

I've attached a chart example.

Thanks and have a good weekend.

If we are understanding what you are wanting, then the easiest way to do this would be to use the "Spreadsheet Study" and use cell K3 for your base price and cell L3 for your line offset. Then use the next 20 columns for the lines by using a formula like the following:
=$K$3 + $L$3 * 1

Where you would change the multiplier for each level.

You can then use the "Value Label" in the Subgraphs to get the text displayed as you want.

Refer to the following:

Hello John,

This will work great.Thanks.

I can get the numbers for columns K-Z but AA, AB etc aren't working for me. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong, please?

I appreciate it.

When I delete the ID6 I can fill the cell with the formula (but not the whole column) but when I enter it into the Subgraph on the Study for the chart it changes the Spreadsheet back to ID6.

Column AA and the rest of the columns to the right, by default, display the data for studies that are on the chart. Those columns are also not formula columns, so they do not do the "copy down" like columns K through Z do.

If you need more formula columns, then change this Input for the Spreadsheet Study:

Ah! I was trying to do it on the Spreadsheet itself.
Thanks.

Obviously I'm clueless here.

I have a chart set up with the SPY price lines on a Spreadsheet and have named this SpyPriceLines.scss (or so I believe).

I would like to simply have this study, these lines and numbers, reference this same Spreadsheet and appear on a couple of other charts of different time frames within the same chartbook.

I've read the instructions but I'm not getting it.

I've tried different combinations of Chart Data Output and Formula Source Sheet etc. but can't seem to get it and I'm lost.

I see it seems to want to reference a different sheet when I try to access the info from a different chart. Does this mean I have to setup a complete new sheet for each chart, including all of the SG data? And therefore have to change all of each sheet's data separately when Spy price needs adjusting relative to the Future's price? I hope not. Ideally this one sheet of info can be "broadcast" or shared among different charts. Change the Master sheet and all linked charts would follow suit.

I apologize for taking time with this and if/when you have time I would appreciate your assistance.

Try this:

- On the chart with the Spreadsheet Study study (SpyPriceLines), focus the spreadsheet and go to Spreadsheet >> Add Sheet.

- Give it new (short) name (Don't use the default name!)
This new sheet is a standalone blank sheet not associated with any chart. It will be your 'master' sheet.

- Enter your price values for the Spy price lines in column A

- Duplicate the first chart, and change its bar duration.
This new chart will have the same-named spreadsheet study, and a new sheet will be added to the spreadsheet, its sheet# matching the chart#.

- On the first chart, reference the added standalone sheet's column and row of each line, using this format:
Working with Spreadsheets: References to Other Sheets within a Spreadsheet
If the Formula Source Sheet Number matches the chart# of the first chart, these references will autopopulate to the other chart's sheets.
(Leave the Chart Data Output Sheet Number set to 0)

- Duplicate the first chart as many times as you need, changing the bar duration as needed.
