Sierra Chart froze and then crashed after I attempted to reattach a chart to the main window. When I reloaded, I could not interact with the charts. Data seemed to be flowing fine as price was updating normally but I could not click anything, move the charts, minimize or maximize... nothing. I could operated everything else on my computer normally. I rebooted my machine and nothing worked. So I executed an upgrade to try and 'restore' a working instance. That did not resolve the issue either. I then launched the platform in safe mode. That too did not work. In my most recent attempt, I upgraded to the current version and got an error. I sent the error log to you using my email address on my account. Please have a look and let me know if/what I should do next.

This is the error: Error opening C:\SierraChart\SierraChart_64.exe. File error: Windows error code 32: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
Make sure Sierra Chart is not running. You should see it on the windows taskbar. But probably at this point you do not need to be concerned with updating. At this point would be probably best that we have a call with you and work through all of this. So I changed the options in the control window that opens when you first launch the software to not open any files. The instance loaded fine with no chartbook. So I manually opened a different chartbook then the one I usually have open automatically. That seemed to work fine. So I messed around with it for a while to make sure it was stable. Then I saved everything and tried the upgrade again. It succeeded and reloaded. Then I opened up the problematic chartbook and again, it loads data and then sits there looking normal. Price is updated, candles are updating, but when I tried to interact with it I get no response. But it looked like it does recognize the interaction. You can see the crosshair move every thirty seconds or so but I cannot open a menu, drag the chart, etc. There was a heatmap chart in the chartbook which I managed to close hoping the memory consumption would drop and the chartbook would start responding again. That also did not work. I tried safe mode again. That did not fix it. Do I just have a corrupt chartbook?

I can do that John but it is happening to multiple chartbooks at this point. I created a completely new chartbook, built one chart as needed, and it performs well. So I do not understand why all those other chartbooks are screwed up right now. The only thing I can think of is that each of them had custom indicators and maybe the update caused issues with them. This new one I built does have one custom but so far is not seemingly affected by whatever is ailing performance overall.

We can open the attached chartbook without any issues, and everything seems fine. We have saved it again with a "-2" appended to the name, and attached it to this thread - out of curiosity. Please see if you can open it and work with it. Keep in mind, we do not have access to the custom studies you have, but if you started in Safe Mode then that is equivalent to what we would see. So we really do not know why you would be having any issues. Let us know if the chartbook we saved works any different for you.
