[Programming Help] - Issue with daily chart data download after update

View Count: 406

Dear Support,
after updating to the latest version of Sierra Chart, the daily charts no longer download data for any symbol. I tried deleting the files in the “Data” folder to force a new download, but the issue remains.
The PC is set up with 4 monitors, each displaying a daily chart. Sierra Home is on Monitor 2

Could you please help me resolve this? If needed, I’m available for remote assistance via TeamViewer (user ID and password are attached).

There is a limit on the number of historical daily data downloads you can make, and you have hit that limit. You can pay for additional downloads by selecting an option at the following link:

We do not have specific information on when the downloads were done or what they were. Just the cumulative number.

This would occur if you were doing scanning of a large number of symbols or going through an Associated Watch List.

John, I didn’t make 5,000 downloads, and it’s strange that it happened today, right after I installed the new version. Honestly, I get the feeling you’re not really willing to give me a logical explanation.

We cannot give an explanation. The log files for the historical data downloads would exist only on your system. Do you have them set to be saved to a file?:
Message Log: Automatically Saving Message Log to File

If so, we can then explain how to access the information, to easily tell what has caused all of these requests.

Please find attached the requested file. I hope this helps us understand why there are such high daily download numbers.
I look forward to receiving your response. Thank you

We cannot tell from a single log file. You have to analyze the log files on your side. You need to search all of the log files.

Among all of the log file search for this text:
Downloading Historical Daily chart data

And then you can see what historical daily data downloads have been requested.

I am writing to request clarification regarding the error message received about exceeding the monthly limit of 5000 historical Daily data download requests ("Daily Historical Data Downloads").
From your documentation, I understand that this limit refers to the number of requests, not the number of days downloaded. However, in my case, I am currently using 21 charts containing Daily data, and I do not understand how it is possible to reach such a high number of requests.

I am wondering if the system counts as separate requests all the symbols included in continuous futures sequences (e.g., ESU5, ESM5, ESH5), but even in that case, I do not delete any local data nor manually force re-downloads.

I analyzed the Message Log and found exactly 21 lines containing:
"Downloading Historical Daily chart data for ...symbol... Starting date: 1975-06-29. Service: rithmic.trading"
along with the following error message:
"2025-06-16 10:02:46.005 | HD Request # 1 | Error downloading historical Daily data for ...symbol... Max downloads per month exceeded. Downloads = 5036. Monthly Limit: 5000"
Based on this, I would appreciate it if you could help me understand:

1) How the count reached 5036 requests in my specific case.
2) Whether there are any settings I should adjust to avoid this kind of automatic behavior.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

From your documentation, I understand that this limit refers to the number of requests, not the number of days downloaded.
This is correct.

However, in the case of a continuous futures contract chart, there are multiple requests. One for each contract month. Although once the data is downloaded for past contracts it will not happen again. Unless it were all deleted.

1) How the count reached 5036 requests in my specific case.
2) Whether there are any settings I should adjust to avoid this kind of automatic behavior.
You need to check all of the log files for the month of June. Assuming the log files are being saved. We also see you have more than one installation of Sierra Chart. So you need to look at the log files of all of them and count the requests.

There are no settings to change.

You must update Sierra Chart. Select Help >> Download Current Version from the Sierra Chart main menu.

This will solve the problem!

You have not yet updated. You need to be running version 2771.

The "Permission denied" error that you are now getting is another issue we cannot help with.

Our strong recommendation is to read through the information here and use the Denali Exchange Data Feed:
