I have an 8 Tick Renko Bar w/wicks chart laid out in the Footprint and Vol. Profile style and I noticed today when I shut down Sierra Chart after the RTH session and restarted before the markets reopened, the Renko bars from earlier today were different from when I looked at them during the trading day. I tried searching the help database for potential answers, but I wasn't having much luck with the search terms I was using. Any ideas of why this might be happening? Do I need to recalculate or reload data throughout the day to make sure the charts are accurate? Let me know.

Thank you!

After thinking about it some more, could it be that the processor is not operating fast enough to keep up and produce the Renko bars accurately? In looking at prior days, I assumed that things were keeping up correctly in real time. After watching it closely today and then restarting as mentioned in my original post, I noticed the differences. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks again for having a great product!!

Yes this can happen. The reason is because the starting Date-Time in the chart has changed. See:

I am in the Central Time Zone and have my charts set to the Chicago setting and related times. Should I have all my charts set to NY time since the exchanges/data go off the NY time?

Thanks for the quick reply and I will look at the link and make changes!

I also put a ReCalc button on the Control Bar. If I click that every once in awhile, will it recalc the Renko bars or is that for studies only?

Thanks!

It does not matter whether you use US Central time or US Eastern time.

If the control bar button is just doing a recalculation, it will just recalculate the studies not reload the chart bars.

I put the New Bar at Session Start back to Yes. I had it set to No so it didn't do a new bar at the NYSE Open, but I can just mentally combine the bar that was right before the NYSE open and the new bar. Let's see if the changes help with the bars remaining the same after a reload.

Thank you!

Thank you for the previous help on my 8 Tick Renko Bar w/wicks chart laid out in the Footprint and Vol. Profile style. I had a follow up question on how to highlight the Open and Last price for an individual bar which are not always the Renko Open and Close as you know. I have been looking and not been able to find out how to do it. I am getting better at using SC, but certainly have a long way to go. Hopefully you can help me out with a quick answer. Each bar has an Open and a Last and if I can highlight those prices with a box or a different colored background, etc., then when a Renko bar doesn't continue in the way of the previous trend it will be easy to spot on the chart versus pulling up the Data Tool to see those prices. Sometimes those prices aren't always obvious and you have to look at the details of the bar which slows down the analysis process versus a quick visual look. I looked in the Footprint Settings, but I am either missing it or maybe it is not available. Let me know. Thanks!

This is not available in the Numbers Bars study. The easiest solution is to use two copies of the "Study Subgraph Reference", one for the Open and one for the Close. Then set the Subgraph "Draw Style" to something that will work for what you are wanting to do. Refer to the following:
Study Subgraph Reference

Chart Studies: Subgraphs Tab >> Draw Style

Awesome! That works!! It would be awesome if it were incorporated like how you can draw a box around the POC, but this will do the job. Thank you again for the quick response!!

FYI - There is a "reload and recalculate" control bar button that I frequently use as part of my troubleshooting step. Convenient and accurate.

I also put a ReCalc button on the Control Bar. If I click that every once in awhile, will it recalc the Renko bars or is that for studies only?

I had another follow up question on my 8 Tick Renko Bar w/wicks chart laid out in the Footprint and Vol. Profile style. I was curious if there is a study or tool to use that can calculate the volume that is traded in the wick portion of the footprint bar. I have a total volume print at the bottom of the chart for each bar, but it would be helpful to be able to quickly glance at how much of that volume is in the body of the candle and how much of the volume is in the wick portion of that same candle. I have the volume profile showing the Delta at each price level of the individual candle and wick whenever a wick is established. I try to do a quick mental calculation, but it would be better if the machine could do the counting for me and I just glance at the result. I appreciate any help on this. Again, slowly learning what all SC can do and figured you could let me know quickly. Thanks again for your time!

The only way to be able to do this would be to use the "Spreadsheet Study" and set the Input for "Output Volume at Price Data" to "Yes". This will then give you the Volume data at each price point for each bar. You would then have to work out the formulas to sum up the volumes that are in the wicks. Refer to the following:
Spreadsheet Study Inputs: Output Volume at Price Data

Okay....I will have to study up on how to do this. I am not familiar with that study, but certainly understand that it is putting the numbers in a spreadsheet, calculating what I am looking for, and then displaying it on the chart. I just need to research the steps to take to get there. I should have majored in computer programming...LOL!!! I would assume that to start I need to make sure I select Based on: Footprint (Numbers Bars)and if I want it to print a number on the chart by the specific bar I need to select Chart Region 1. Do you know of any good videos out there showing how to work with the Spreadsheet Study for us non-programmer types?

Thanks,

Frank

We do not have any videos for this ourselves. Our videos can be found here:
Video Library

You would have to do an Internet search to see what you can find.
