waiting to download historical data - my chartbooks dont work

o open my chartbook and i got a message saying "waiting to download historical data". What do i do ? why do i get this message? i have sierrachart service package 11. i will upload a picture that shows my problem.

i also did edit-----> delete all data and download and now my harddrive is getting eating up. why is this happening

ok so i think i understand. i have to download data for my charts. historical data is just like daily data or weekly and it does not have a lot of info and thats why its downloading fast and does not take big space. anything under daily timeframe is considered to be intraday data for an example 1 hour or 1 minute. so i need to download data to be able to see my chartbooks and the past data needs to be download and any new data thats is showing up in the chartbook it will also eat up my harddrive? so do i need to have a seperate space or harddrive for my chartbooks "data"? i just saw how my harddrive lost 16 gb. and i dont know what i did.

You have the information correct. The Intraday data is stored on your hard drive at the increment that is defined in "Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Common Settings >> Intraday Data Storage Time Unit". By default this is set to 1 tick, which is necessary if you are wanting to look at Numbers Bars or have studies that depend on very accurate Bid/Ask data at each price level. Otherwise, you can change this to something larger to save space, but you have to decide what is best. Refer to the following: Data/Trade Service Settings: Intraday Data Storage Time Unit (Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Common Settings >> Common Settings) Depending on how many symbols and the number of days for which you are wanting the data, 16GB could definitely be used by the Sierra Chart files. It is best to keep the "Data" folder directly under the main Sierra Chart folder, although you can move it. But it is best to move the entire installation, as you can do this by just moving the Sierra Chart folder itself. The only thing you would need to update would be any links/shortcuts you have setup to start the program. Ok but where is the data exactly stored ? Can I also erase the stored data and free up the space? I feel like i need to buy an extra harddrive to just store the data. Typically if you just show 2 futures contract and and use intraday charts like 1 min. How much will the data be in 254 days or 1 year? How many gigabyte? And if I do some replay and simtrading it will also take up space on my harddrive

Data is stored in the folder named 'Data', which typically is located under your main Sierra Chart installation folder (e.g. C:\SierraChart\Data). You can view where your specific data file is located by reviewing the information at the following setting on your system: General Settings Window: Data Files Folder (Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Files and Folder Paths) Intraday data is stored in files with the file extension .scid. Daily data is stored in files with the extension of .dly. Refer to the following for how to free up disk space for no longer needed symbols: Chart Data and Chart Data Files: Cleaning Up Old and Unused Symbols for Efficiency We can not tell you how large the files will be, it depends on how much trading is done for a particular symbol. Replays do not use any additional file space. Sim Trading uses a minimal amount of space to store the trade information.
