Recently we have begun a project where we are using direct connectivity to Data and Trading services rather than using API components. A more detailed explanation on this can be found here:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/helpdetails76.html

This makes Sierra Chart a much more stable and easier to use program. We have communicated with every single service our position on this and we hope to have full cooperation on this by the middle of the year.

And we very much appreciate the cooperation we have received. We thank every service we work with, for the alternative connection methods they have provided.

Currently we are integrating to both CTS T4 and OEC by using FIX connection. The case of OEC we are using FAST/FIX and we are developing our own encoder/decoder for this.

Let's say I have a site where people can download chart data and I want sierrachart to use this data. Which interface would you recommend I implement (i.e., which one is the most simple one, or if sierrachart uses just a subset of a complex interface then what is that subset)? How about if I would also implement trading functionality?

Regards,
Marcus

Sierra Chart has its own protocols for downloading historical data and receiving real-time data. It would be best to follow these protocols.

However if you are just providing simple historical data, we could use HTTP and you could provide comma delimited data or something like that. We would be happy to work on the details of this with you.

In the case of trading we recommend using FIX.

I mean, is there something I could implement now and have my unmodified sierrachart use it by just changing an IP address in the settings?

Yes. What we can do is add a new service named "General SC Data Service" and allow you to specify the address and port number. You would develop a service that follows the same protocols used by Sierra Chart if you just want market data. It would take us a little while though to prepare those protocol specifications for you.

For Data and Trading we would recommend one of the FIX services. Possibly Trading Technologies.

Global Data Feeds (FIX Protocol with direct socket. For Indian futures and options data. Nearly complete.)
LMAX (FIX Protocol with direct socket. Already complete. Waiting to complete conformance test)
E-Signal (Direct socket with JSON data format. Nearly complete)
Tele trader (HTTP with JSON and text data formats. Nearly complete)
BitCoin (HTTP and JSON. For data and trading. To be started soon.)
PATS (FIX protocol with direct socket. This will probably not start until several months from now at least)

CQG (no support planned until they conform to our specifications provided in post #1)

Which bitcoin markets will you support? I suppose MtGox at least, but what about Bitstamp?

For now MTGox. We have not yet looked at Bitstamp.

Only new services being supported are listed in post #6. So TransAct will not be listed there.

Not sure if this qualifies as 'simple' as per the new feature suggestion guideline - but you think you could offer a datafeed-only connection for lmax? I would find that useful.

Yes we can do this. Could you please ask us about this again in about 2 weeks.

I have been unable to receive data through TrackData past 48 hrs.
I assume it is because of the API components issue. I have spoken to TrackData and am awaiting their input.
I am a bit frustrated and would welcome any advice.
Many thanks,

Jack Drucker

We have added the symbols. Please select Global Settings >> Symbol Settings and press the Update From Server button. Press OK and then after that go to the Find Symbol window.

Hi,

i have updated the symbols from server, and the symbols are now displayed in the 'Find Symbol' dialog box. I can load historical charts, but for Intraday charts i get a "symbol unknown" box in an empty chart.

P.S. lmax has recently added 2 additional symbols XTI/USD (spot us crude oil CFD) and J225 (Nikkei 225 index cfd).

Update to version 969. This is now resolved.

We will add those symbols if they are not already listed.

About 2 days ago, we became aware that our latest version could not connect to Mytrack due to a small programming error. It is now resolved in version 970. Please update by selecting Help >> Download Prerelease. The connection to Mytrack does not use an API component. Gratefully it is a direct socket connection. We never had any trouble with it. It works very well.

Hello,

Any word on the OEC FIX connection?

I noticed that the OCE data (bid/ask cummulative delta) has been much more stable over the past few weeks. I guess OEC made some changes on their end?

Thx,
WT
