Numbers Bars Chart: Intermittently Bolding Numbers

Hello Sierra,
I am experiencing an intermittent issue with the Numbers Bars study whereby the numbers are intermittently bolding.

If the font size is increased from 8 to 9 without restarting Sierra Chart, then the bolding disappears for the current instance, however, if restarting Sierra once the font has increased, then the intermittent bolding also applies to font size 9, which is then not bolded if the font size is reduced from 9 to 8. This only occurs on a Numbers Bars chart, not any other chart.

The latest version of Sierra is running with OpenGL.

Screenshots can be provided.

Thank you

Check the following Inputs to see if they are set in a way that would cause the "bolding":
Numbers Bars: Bold/Highlight Last Trade Price

Numbers Bars: Bid / Ask Bold Threshold

Hello John,
Yes, I have tried "None", "Bold Only", "Highlight Only" and "Bold and Highlight", and this doesn't appear to have any influence.

The following are some of what has been tried over the past week before opening this ticket:
1) NVIDIA drivers have been completely uninstalled and reinstalled.
2) Sierra Chart has been run with and without administrator privileges.
3) A new chartbook has been created with a new Numbers Bars chart created.
4) A new chartbook has been created with the existing Numbers Bars chart duplicated.
5) The Sierra installation has been executed on another computer.

All of the above have not resolved the issue.

Three screenshots are attached. Note, even the VbP numbers are bolded in the font size 8 screenshot.

What is the Input on the Numbers Bars for "Font Size Mode" set to?

And how are you changing the size of the font?

We do see that this is affecting all the studies on the chart, not just Numbers Bars. But we do not know why.

We assume that you are not using OpenGL, but please verify this by looking at "Global Settings >> Graphics Settings >> Other >> Use OpenGL for Chart Graphics" and let us know whether it is enabled or not.

Currently the "Font Size Mode" is set to "Automatic with Minimum/Maximum Limits" with a maximum of 8 and minimum of 4. I have tried both settings ("Automatic with Minimum/Maximum Limits" and "Same as Chart Font") and this doesn't resolve the issue.

I have manually changed the font size either by changing the maximum from 8 to 9, or by selecting "Same as Chart Font" which is set to 9. With the VbP study, this is set in the "Volume Numbers Text Color and Size" subgraph.

OpenGL is enabled. When disabled the issue doesn't exist, however, without OpenGL, Sierra is basically unusable.

What graphics card do you have in your system?

We think this might be related to OpenGL, as OpenGL does not have direct Text capabilities. So we'll have to check with our OpenGL developer to see if this might be something due to a change or just a bug due to the graphics card.

Hi John,
The GPU is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU.

Thank you

Nvidia has excellent support for OpenGL, so probably not related to the card. We have not heard back from the developer yet.

Test the latest release, and let us know if you notice any difference. If not not sure there is much more we can do. Fonts are not very easy to work with OpenGL.

Hello Sierra Chart,
Thank you for the update, and for the fix. It looks like the Numbers Bars are displaying correctly without bolding (see attached). The Last Price is now also bolding while the other values remain normal.

The only thing I have noticed, and this isn't a make or break, is that the Countdown Timer and Zig Zag text are now bolded (see attached). This wasn't the case before the update.

Thanks again!

The Countdown Timer and Zig Zag values are actually chart drawings. Check the setting for your Chart Drawing font. Refer to the following:
Chart Drawing Tools: Global Chart Drawing Font (Global Settings >> Tool Settings >> General >> Drawing Font)

Hi John,
The setting is the same as the Global Font settings.

When I right-click on the countdown timer to access the drawing properties, the Bold version of the font is selected. However, if I change this to Normal and click "Ok", it immediately reverts to the Bold version. Also, if I tick "Use Global Font" and click "Ok" (Chart Drawing Properties > Options > Use Global Font > Ok), it doesn't save the changes either (the "Use Global Font" is unticked when I access the drawing properties again.

In the case of the Countdown Timer, it is specifically set to use the Chart Text Font and it is set to Bold.

We had to look at the code to see that this is specifically set and not using the default Chart Drawing Font.

If you really want to change this, you can change the code and recompile the study the way you want. The code is in Studies2.cpp which is located in the ACS_Source folder under your main Sierra Chart folder. Refer to the following:

Thank you John, I have located the study in Studies2.cpp.
