How to use custom tools to draw 2 different types of volume profiles

I use the draw profile tool frequently. I have set up a custom tool, along with the regular DVP tool available in the control bar. What I am trying to do is have a tool button that will draw a VP that is split on the bid ask to show buying and selling. I would like the other tool button draw a regular total volume VP. However, I am having trouble doing that as the tool button will draw whatever VP is currently set as the default. Is there a workaround anyone knows of. I don't see a configuration option for VP like there is for other drawing tools. Thanks.

sorted! i do love sierra and you guys and what your doing however i think you need someone not so smart in your team that can represent us idiots so when you design things, you can parse it through them first. lol.

whilst i've got you here... i use volume profile and delta profile at the same time in my analysis. choosing the draw volume profile tool only lets me do the one. i know i can duplicate it and change the settings but it's a bit cumbersome and doesn't lend itself to quick anaiysis. is there another way i can plot both the volume and delta profile at the same time anywhere i choose on the chart?

You can get a Volume Profile like that, which also means you can get it in the Drawn Volume Profile.

Refer to the following setting for the Volume by Price:
Volume By Price Study: Bid Volume and Ask Volume Coloring Method

You would set this to "Difference of Bid and Ask Volume Coloring", or "Diagonal Difference of Bid and Ask Coloring".

Also be aware of the following Input and the one below it:
Volume By Price Study: Draw Difference of Bid and Ask Volume Using Percent of Max Bar

--

You can have up to 24 different tool configurations for any tool - including the Drawn Volume by Price. You can setup multiple Control Bar buttons for different configurations for the Drawn Volume by Price.

sorry, are you saying i can draw one volume profile and include a delta profile within it? i'm a little confused....

having looked through the 2 links, i already know how to do those aspects of the profile. that screenshot is what i've already done. what i'm asking is how can i draw both of them when we only have the one volume profile tool.

Yes. You set the "Bid and Ask Volume Coloring Method" to be the difference profile, then you will have both the Total Volume and the difference profile showing.

Attached is a Study Collection with a single Volume by Price study that has this setup. Refer to the following for how to use this so you can see what we are talking about:

that was very kind of you. much appreciated. any chance you can make the delta bar width percentage mch bigge so they are just smaller than the volume profile underneath. tia

We still have yet to put together that documentation, but the instructions are exactly the same as the instructions for the "Drawn Volume Profile". So just use those same instructions for now.

It's the same concept. You need to create a VWAP study setup the way you want it and then save it as a Study Collection. Then you setup the tool configuration with that Study Collection.

Have you done this and it is not working? What is not working in this case? What are you seeing relative to how you setup the Study in the Study Collection?

screen shots uploaded. there's one more but i've reached my limit, it's just showing the button on the control bar.

ok, i've followed all the instructions many times, and i've already managed to get the volume and delta profiles working using the same instructions, but for whatever reason the vwap isn't working. study configured and saved in study collection, tool configuration set with the study.... keeps on going back to the default study when i choose and apply the tool.

Everything in the images looks good. That control bar button will select the Anchored VWAP tool with Configuration 2, which is setup to use the Study Collection named "VWAP Anchored+".

We just tested this as well to ensure that everything is working properly and it is, at least in version 2862. So we wonder if this might be related to the version you are running. We would prefer that you update to the latest version (v 2862), but there are a lot of changes in this latest version related to how the windows inside of the main Sierra Chart application are handled. So we understand if you do not want to jump to that version. But at least go to version 2813 and see if you have the same issue.

To update to latest release, follow these instructions:
Software Download: Fast Update

To update to version 2813 specifically, follow the instructions at the following link. Do not worry that the section is in relation to rolling back, the instructions are the same to get to a specific version.
Software Download: Full Control Rollback Procedure

We are curious as to what exactly is different in the "VWAP Anchored+" from the standard VWAP? What are you expecting to see different that is not showing up?

I’ll have a look at the above when I get home and report back. The vwap tool currently includes deviation lines and I don’t want them. Plus I want to change the style so it’s in line with my other colours etc. out of interest, will the existing studies I’ve built in my version be compatible with the newest version?

There are no changes to ACSIL that should cause any issues with your custom studies between these versions.

if i were to input into requesting improvements to sierra charts in the fuure, i would ask for collapsable chart regions where the indicators are so we can see the main chart without closing the studies in other regions.

thanks again mate!

We understand what you are asking for and have noted the request. We can not say when we would get to any particular request.

We do want to point out that you can "somewhat" accomplish what you are looking for with multiple Study Collections. One to have the study as you want it, and then another to have just that study as the "Main Price Graph", so it is then "maximized". But we do understand that this would be untenable with even a moderate amount of studies.
