1. is there a limit to the # of instances I can run on a single computer?
2. while having a few instances open & when trying to file-->new instance, I am getting an error. I have instances 1-9 running and instance #10 will not open.
the msg log is attached

another general question, if I will set a few instances path to the same data folder, and will run a replay, will it cause any errors calling the same scid file from different instances at the same time?
thanks

1. Up to 1000 instances.

2.
Error opening D:\SierraChart\SierraChartInstance_9\SierraChart_64.exe. Windows error code 32: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. | 2022-09-25 03:26:12.569 *
This means the instance is already running.

We recommend exiting all instances of Sierra Chart that are running and then open them again.

Definitely do not do this!:

You will absolutely cause problems!!!

thanks
about #2, I understand the error. though opening an instance from menu, you can not control the # it will open. and when using it I will expect to open a new instance that is not in use. yet, it's trying to open an already running instance. this is the issue.
is there any function to open an instance via ascil?

yet, it's trying to open an already running instance. this is the issue.

This should not be the case. When you start a "New Instance" through the File menu, the system starts the lowest number available that is not already running. Normally this would be instance 2, then instance 3, etc. It does not try to open the same number for an instance that is already running.

You can control the instances that are started automatically when you first start Sierra Chart. Refer to the following:
General Settings Window: Instances to Run on Startup (Global Settings >> General Settings >> General >> New Instances)
