[User Discussion] - New instance freezes when I try to duplicate the chartbook

My chartbook is frozen and just dings when I click it. I tried to duplicate the entire chartbook all I would have to do is change the assets on the four charts and I got a big black screen and clicked ok. Now the chartbook is stuck on my screen. This is a 'new instance' chart, if that makes any difference. I'm having difficulty duplicating a single chart to a new chartbook also. I've read the threads and they don't answer either of these issues.

We did come across an issue with copying chartbooks a little while ago and fixed it. Please update to the latest release and try again.

I updated, and my old 'new instance' chartbook and all my charts are still frozen. The old charts are not coming up in the new download.

Are they frozen when you try to duplicate them, or right after you open them?

I haven't tried to duplicate since the update because the chartbook I tried to duplicate before the update is still open and frozen and I don't want a complete mess.

I finally had to just shut down my computer with the frozen page open. I then tried to duplicate again from one ChartBook to another and got a black screen with only one option (the same ChartBook I'm duplicating from)and got another frozen screen.

When you are duplicating to a new chartbook, you are getting one of our new windows. You need to select the section for the chartbooks to see the list. Refer to the following for how to work with that particular field on that window:
Settings Windows Interface: Item List (Working with Sierra Chart Windows >> Selection Specific Options)

I'm having the same issue. Unfortunately that link doesn't include any information on the chatbook copy window.
I have a working chartbook (5 windows) when I select the Chart > copy chartbook, I ask for a new chartbook, and to open that chartbook through the new interface window.

Once I confirm my window options, a new chartbook opens and looks to be loading the charts, unfortunately that's as far as it gets. All the charts freeze. Any interaction with the window gets a (Not responding) prompt. If I leave it alone (I've left this over 2 hrs waiting for loading) nothing loads.

I have the most recent version installed and 32MB of ram on a relatively new device to make use of as well.

What could be causing this, and what's the best way to resolve this issue?

Thank you

We are not able to reproduce this. We are not having any issue with copying all the charts in a chartbook to another chartbook.

We are hoping that something might be logged before the system locks up, therefore please do the following:
- Set the setting for Global Settings >> General Settings >> Log >> Save Message Log to File to Yes.
- Exit Sierra Chart and start it again and open your chartbooks.
- Select Chart >> Duplicate All Charts to Chartbook.
- If the program locks up, then go ahead and stop it.
- Open a File Explorer window and go to the top of your Sierra Chart installation (typically C:\SierraChart, but could be anywhere that you installed Sierra Chart to).
- Go into the folder named Logs and look for the most recent file that has the name that starts with Message Log 2023-02-.
- Attach that file to this thread by following these instructions:

We are also curious if you have the same issue if you copy just 1 chart to a new chartbook. Please try this as well and let us know.

I've attached 2 files as they were both dated today and within 2 minutes of each other.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Unfortunately, there is nothing in the log that helps us. We are not surprised, but it is the first thing we had to check.

Are you able to duplicate 1 chart to a new chartbook, or do you have the same issue with the program crashing?

It was worth a shot. I just tried to duplicate my PCO chart and it did the same thing although the behaviour was slightly different.

Once I copied to a new chartbook, I was immediately greeted with the (Not Responding) prompt. I waited a minute and was flipped automatically back to the original chartbook.

I went back into the new chartbook where it looked as though the new chart loaded, but once I tried to interact with it SC frooze again for another minute and pushed me back to the original chartbook.

On the 3rd try I did not get pushed back to the original chartbook. SC just froze and stayed that way until I was ended the task.

I'll try again with another chart and see if it's my TPO chart that's the issue.

Please try with a very simple chart and see what happens.

Also, if you can attach your Chartbook to this thread then we will see if we can reproduce it with your chartbook. Refer to the instructions at the following link:

I've just tried with a basic intraday chart. I don't get any freezing, but after about 20 minutes wait it's still loading at 0.8%. The good part is that SC hasn't crashed.

I've also attached the cht file as requested.

We are not able to reproduce the Duplicate to Chartbook issue, but we do see the slow loading of the data. Mostly this is due to the large amount of data with the Cryptocurrencies, but there are a few things you can do to help that we noticed.
- Remove the Continuous Futures Contract options. This is not a futures product, so this is not needed, but the system keeps looking for the other contracts, which just adds some time.
- You may not have this issue, but for some reason when we opened the chartbook, the amount of data to download did not download as much as it should have, so the range of the data in the file was only back to February 14, 2023. Make sure your Chart >> Chart Settings >> Data Limiting >> Data Range in File From is far enough back for the data you want.

Otherwise, it is just going to take some time to load the data due to the amount of data. If you limit the number of days to load, it will go faster.

Since you are using crypto currencies, refer to:
Cryptocurrency / Bitcoin Data and Trading Services: Important: Volume at Price Studies with Cryptocurrency Symbols

Make sure this option is set to Yes for the charts before duplicating the Chart or Chartbook:

Chart Settings: Do Not Change Symbol Settings for Chart on Symbol Change (Chart >> Chart Settings >> Symbol >> Symbol Settings menu)

You probably have changed from the default Tick Size but when you duplicate the chart, the Tick Size changes back to a smaller value causing the problem.

Thanks for that... Just a quick update.

Removing the Continuous Futures options definitely helped with loading speed on the original chart book. Unfortunately it didn't seem to do very much once I copied to a new chartbook. I copied 1 chart at a time and although I didn't get any crashing the charts took hours to load.

Changing the tick volume however looks to have solved the problem. Not only do the source charts load faster, I can copy all charts to a new chartbook without any freezing. The load time is now down to seconds rather than hours.

Thank you!!
