It was working, the OEC real time data feed to SC, but now it is giving me nightmares. It did connect as I'm writing this, but it wouldn't for 15 minutes or so. This is the error:

I shut down SC and restarted, and now it won't connect to OEC again. Frustrating when I'm trying to trade. Losing money.

Same problem with me, it just keeps trying to connect. SC used to be very reliable...
After cca 5 minutes I got the connection.

I had same issue about an hour ago, 0930-0945ET, as well as there were some historical data issues this weekend when I tried loading charts that had not been updated "realtime" since last Wednesday. Serious data and connection issues with any version above 1078. Once again, after trying several versions above 1080 for the past month or so, I've reverted back to the stable version 1078.

I also had no connection issues with the previous version of SC for what it's worth.

What do you mean by, "previous version"?

By "previous version" I mean I just updated my SC about a week ago per SC instructions to do so. So today I'm running the lastest version, and the previous version is the last version, whatever the number was.

I now have connection (10:18 cst), seemingly stable. Just an observation here, When I was getting continous connect errors I noticed that BOTH the "Con" and "Dis" buttons on the menu were higlighted ((Black letters). That has never occured before (that I noticed). I clicked the Dis button then the Con button, waited about 30 sec and a connection was established.

For what it's worth -- I just reverted back to version 1077 from 1106 and connection is fine. (1077 was the last stable version I used. Reliability went downhill after 1078)

At this point, OEC must acknowledge and resolve the FIX connection issues users are having. They have been told about the issues and they must acknowledge them and resolve them. This is essential. If you have a connection problem, let OEC know about it. Let them know whether you are connecting to the production server or simulation server and provide them your username.

There is no way we could have known in advance about these FIX connection problems when we added support for FIX. Besides we needed to add support for a direct connection method because Sierra Chart no longer supports API components.

Basically what is happening is that when Sierra Chart loses the connection to the FIX server, it will reconnect and send the Logon message. Apparently what is happening, is that when Sierra Chart reconnects the server, the OEC server thinks the connection is part of the prior session and when we send the Logon message, it just ignores it.

When you cannot connect to OEC, our recommended solution is to select File >> Disconnect, wait about 30 seconds to a minute and then select File >> Connect to Data Feed.

as well as there were some historical data issues this weekend when I tried loading charts that had not been updated "realtime" since last Wednesday.
What you are describing here is that because the OEC FIX server is not available over the weekend, you cannot connect and therefore you cannot get the historical data. We have requested OEC to make the FIX server available over the weekend.

We also had a problem with the FAST market data and wanted to discuss the FAST implementation specifications with them in a call, and they did not have the call or help us with that. Although at this time, we do not seem to be noticing the problem or hearing about problems with FAST market data. But we need to do more testing.

I "understand" that the server isn't connected until 1800ET on Sunday evening, though it is ridiculous that it is NOT available on the weekend. That was not the issue with the historical data. Even after the server was up and running I tried unsuccessfully for approximately one hour to download the missing data. I finally surrendered, loaded a version 1078 and updated my data using that version.

This does not make sense. Without seeing the Message Log, we cannot say specifically what the issue was. The way that historical data is handled with OEC for the major futures contracts is the same between older and newer versions.

Didn't make sense to me either and unfortunately I didn't save the logs since I uninstalled and then installed version 1078. I assure you it did occur though - data from Wednesday 03.04 to Friday 03.07 would not update with version 1104.

"There is no way we could have known in advance about these FIX connection problems when we added support for FIX." - This statement without proper explanation is not totally acceptable to a software end user.

I understand FIX connection problem lies at OEC side. But, how did Sierra chart pass the FIX connection testing at first place? Just out of curiosity.

Practically, OEC data feed user must use OLD version of Sierra 1077/78 for stable connection. All the continuous bug fixes/improvement or enhancement of Sierra chart are totally irrelevant to us, since we are paying for the old version of software (Note, not 1 or 2 releases, it is multiple versions behind...].

I am not sure if it is even possible, can we drop the FIX connection of OEC? Let us move on with new version of Sierra chart but with old connection method? [ Edit: Sierra dropped the API component, so I guess the answer for my question is a NO. Well, go back to the old version then...]

I appreciate all the feedback here, but I'm not sure what to do. I don't see how I can trade with real dollars if I can lose my connection and not be able to watch the Sierra Chart. Any suggestions that will guarantee I will not lose my OEC data connection while I'm trading? Thanks guys. Sincerely appreciate your suggestions.

I assure you it did occur though - data from Wednesday 03.04 to Friday 03.07 would not update with version 1104.
The only scenario where this will occur is if the Symbol Settings indicated for the symbol that there was not data available from the Sierra Chart server. That is a possibility. And because the FIX server, where the data request would have been routed to, has very limited data, you could have experienced this.

This statement without proper explanation is not totally acceptable to a software end user.
What kind of explanation do you want? Basically how could we possibly know about a problem which is intermittent, we never observed during development, and clearly resides on the OEC side. Not sure what more explanation can be provided than that.

But, how did Sierra chart pass the FIX connection testing at first place? Just out of curiosity.
We perform our own testing which has higher standards. FIX connection testing does not reveal an issue like this. Conformance tests for professional software developers are of little value. They do not reveal actual real-world problems that you can experience. This is a basic fact that we have seen many times. No one should ever put reliance upon a "conformance test". This is an example scenario where it is not relevant.

We have contacted OEC just now with more technical details about the problem. At some point they are going to fix this. It is our impression this will be resolved in the coming days. OEC developers must be competent enough to take care of this. We have pointed out exactly what the issue is. So we are on top of this.

For now please use the older version 1078:

Any suggestions that will guarantee I will not lose my OEC data connection while I'm trading?
Yes. Please use version 1078 or earlier which can be downloaded from here:

Thanks, but I can't trade without market internals. I feel like I'm blind. And one very important indicator I like has a dll file that is only works with the new version of SC, not version 1078. At this point, I am in a Twilight Zone and cannot trade at all until the new version of SC and OEC get the data connection fixed.

We have heard from OEC, they are getting closer to solving this problem.

Honestly, though they should be able to solve it on their own without getting more information from us. But we will give them what they need. They did ask us for some log files from users. So we will give them that.

There is actually a simple solution to this. At least with market internals. Set up another copy of Sierra Chart and set it to use the "SC Market Stats" service. Here is the documentation for this:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/MultipleServices.html

Here are the instructions to use the market statistics service:

I have recently setup an account with broker affiliated with OEC. I specifically chose OEC since I needed Sierra Charting but would like specific OEC broker. Now I am looking for another broker (Non OEC) with data feed compatable with Sierra Chart. No broker or platform offers the power and unique functionality of Sierra, so dropping SC is a last resort.

OMG! this is getting complicated. My OEC data to SC keeps disconnecting, so I cannot trade. After dozens of support board posts and days, SC says we should reinstall version 1078 (many versions back), so I do that. But then market internals don't work, so I cannot trade. After many more support posts, I see SC stating that there is a link to get help to be able to use OEC data on an older version of SC and get market internals to work by following detailed instructions to run two data feeds at the same time, one being the SC Market Stats service. When I look at those instructions, I go OMG! The process is a nightmare, and I still cannot trade. Now I'm starting to get pissed off. Not at the good folks at SC. Not at anyone at OEC. At two systems that don't talk to each other. What a mess. And I still cannot trade. I am not a happy camper folks.

User59724,

The process of using a second copy of Sierra Chart on your system is very easy. The information is detailed for a couple of reasons. It covers data sharing which you would not be using . It also provides detailed installation instructions for installing multiple copies of Sierra Chart on your system.

Basically you do the following:
1. Download Sierra Chart and install it into another folder on your system.
2. Log into it using your Sierra Chart account name and password.
3. Set it to use the "SC Market Stats" service.

This is it.

Thanks SC Engineering, but it is not that easy. Not by a long shot. Your simplification doesn't come close to what is involved. Once you have two copies of SC installed, you must share data, and these additional instructions are in your own written words as follows. Now let's all say together OMG! This whole situation is a nightmare.
