OEC disconnecting

Starting yesterday I am being continuously disconnected from OEC data feed, automatic reconnecting does not work. I have SC 1103. Data feed to their OEC trader works fine. Pls help.

I too am experiencing intermittent disconnection from my OEC feed. I am running SC version 1097 ... just now it seems to have restarted but it appears there is some underlying problem. Any suggestions from you would be most welcome.

There is definitely a huge problem. I have received info from both side Sierrachart / OEC , that the problem is on the other side of the playground.
Please you are making business together, so try to cooperate on this problem instead of blaming each other.
I can't trade under these conditions.

Please let me know what I should do. Again my OEC streaming feed disconnected (by itself) and now again (after what seemed like a couple of minutes or more maybe) (by itself) reconnected and is again providing me with streaming charts.

Are you aware of the problems and secondly are you close to finding a solution?

For many years there never was any issue (at all) with my SC charts feeding off the OEC data feed, but this seems to have changed these past weeks. I am not a computer expert but is the source of these problems not because something has changed (be it at OEC's end or your end) and surely between the two parties it should be possible to identify what needs to be done to restore the 'reliability' we enjoyed for the past many YEARS?

In regards to this, make sure you have Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Reconnect on Failure enabled.

so try to cooperate on this problem instead of blaming each other.
We will have a look at the Message Logs again and determine the source of the issue, and let OEC know.

Yes we are aware of the problem. We are aware that sometimes when we send the FIX Logon message to OEC, their server does not respond. We looked into this yesterday confirmed that this is definitely an issue on the OEC side. There are some things, we can definitely be very certain on. This is one of them.

We also notice a problem where users get disconnected from the FIX server, not the FAST server. Considering the frequency at which this occurs and how many users it is affecting, it is not likely to be some external network issue that users are experiencing. We have reported this to OEC. So as far as a solution, it is not something we have control over.


The source of these issues is that Sierra Chart now uses a FIX connection to OEC which connects into a different server program on the OEC side . If the problem is that the server program does not get a heartbeat through from Sierra Chart and then disconnects, they will see that in their log files. We have not heard that this is the case. With Sierra Chart, you have a very complete log of what happens with the FIX connection.

Anyway, someone post a Message Log again here when you have a problem and we will see what the particular issue is. Here are the instructions:

If I have understood you properly you wish to see my SC message log. So here it is. As I said, today my charts suddenly stopped streaming, and then after some time they started streaming again. I also mentioned that this problem, that I and others are experiencing, is something relatively new. It never happened previously (and I have been using SC in conjunction with OEC's data stream for very many years).

We are sending this to OEC now:
We have many users reporting a problem where they are getting disconnected from the production FIX server and the other problem is where when we send the Logon message there is no response from the server. We notice both of these problems as well.

Here is a particular example. All times at the end of the Message Log lines below are US Eastern.

Here is a problem where the server is not responding after we send the Logon message. Did you get the logon message? Was it clear and not garbled? It should be extremely easy to determine what is going wrong in this particular case.

Sierra Chart has disconnected after one minute because there was no response. This is a reasonable amount of time. It should not take a minute to logon.

OK we have heard from OEC, and we now understand the nature of the Logon problem and it is an issue for them to resolve on their side. When you notice that you cannot connect to OEC, disconnect with File >> Disconnect, wait about 30 seconds before trying again. That is the key to work around the problem.

And we also know why the disconnects are occurring but the actual source of that is unclear at this time. What is happening is the server is closing the connection because it is not getting heartbeat messages so we are reducing the interval between heartbeat messages. But Sierra Chart is indeed sending them . This is something that is very solid and works properly because we do extensively use FIX with numerous other services without problems. And it is common code which handles the heartbeats.

There is no guarantee filled orders are going to display in the Orders and Positions window. If they are not there, that is not unusual. And the FIX server does not make them available.

With the new FIX connection, the Account Balance is not supported at this time.

Also, this issue with losing the connection, for the most part is an issue on the OEC side. The only other place it can be would be with the Internet connection between your computer and the OEC system. They said they are having their network engineers look into it.

May be I'm not getting the point, but what is the benefit for us with this new Fix connection? So far we are loosing the ability to Trade, now also Stats (balance). Your are pointing to OEC, ok so we'll have to wait anyway..
You have thumb up from me for ongoing process of improving Sierrachart, but at the end of the day it is all about Trading. And I have lost this week because of this issue.
As user David-G wrote, there were no major issues of using Sierrachart / OEC.
