After following the directions in the Alert Sound Settings of the online help guide, I cannot get custom alert sounds to take. Despite [selecting sound file] and having it appear properly, whenever I press [test sound] the single ding plays instead; the same happens when I trigger the alert. I've restarted SC several times, in case that was the problem. No matter what I do, when I press [test sound] the new sound will not play... I get a ding instead. Please see attached (it is not a chart image - it's a window image).

The file name that you have highlighted in that screenshot, what is the exact folder path that it is located within?

It should be C:\SierraChart\AlertSounds

The custom sound files are in the default C:\SierraChart\AlertSounds directory. I am able to play them with Windows Media Player. However, when I click your [test sound] button I get what sounds like a Windows Error chime. I'm attaching more detailed screen shots, showing the path. Is it possible that some .wav files are not compatible with your playback mechanism? I used this online tool to create them...

https://www.kukarella.com/text-to-voice-converter

As I mentioned, they do play fine under Windows Media Player, and they are indeed .wav files.

This could be the problem but Sierra Chart uses this Windows API function:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/dd743680(v=vs.85)

But still this function may not be able to handle those particular wave files due to the method of encoding.

You can attach one here following these instructions and we can test it ourselves:

I have solved this problem - the .wav file quality was too high (sampling rate).

Using another utility, I created 16kHz 16bit mono .wav files, and they play correctly through SC.

The utility I used is called SAPI5 TTSAPP.

Yes something like that does make sense. Whatever the reason it could not be played through the Windows API function Sierra Chart is using. We could not hear the actual recording but just instead the standard Windows ding sound.
