Auto Retracement/Projection Study, based on another study

Hi,

I am looking to use the auto retracement/projection study, but based on another study, rather than price itself. I am using the VbP study and it provides a fixed value area for that week, with three values - value area high, value area low and point of control. I want to use the auto projection study to project a 1.618 projection off the value area high. However, in the study settings, I have changed "based on" to VbP instead of main price graph, but it is calculating the study off the point of control, not the value area high (or value area low which I will do in another study). How can I get the auto projection tool to be based off the value area high or low, rather than the point of control?

Many thanks in advance,

A

Hi SC,

I may not have explained the above correctly. What I want to do is use the auto projection study to calculate a 1.618 projection with the 100% and 0% values being the VAH and VAL (or vice versa) on the VbP study. Is it possible to modify it in this way? Thanks in advance

The Auto Retracement/Projection study uses the Open, High, Low, and Last, therefore if you are going to base this on another study, then that study has to have Subgraph's in the order of Open, High, Low and Last as their first 4 subgraphs.

The only way to really make this work would be to use the Spreadsheet Study and put in the values you need for columns K, L, M and N, and then base the Auto Retracement/Projection study on the Spreadsheet Study.

In your particular case, you would add the Volume Value Area Lines study to the chart, then set the columns as follows:
K: ID0.SG1@3
L: ID1.SG2@3
M: ID1.SG3@3
N: ID0.SG4@3

This assumes that your Volume Value Area Lines study is ID1.

Refer to the following for how to reference a study in a Spreadsheet:
Working with Spreadsheets: References to Study Subgraph Columns when using the Spreadsheet Study

And refer to the following for the Volume Value Area Lines:

Hello SC

Just to follow up on the above - is it possible to have the Auto Retracement/Projection Study based on the Zig Zag Study? So for every Zig Zag swing, the auto retracement study will calculate the defined retracement levels such as 0.5 and 0.618 etc.
Look forward to your response on how I can set this up on my chart.

Best wishes
Sorem.
