I am using SC and Rithmic in a Top Step SIM combine.

Last night I began to get this error code when I entered a position.

Error writing record to C:\SierraChart\TradeActivityLogs\TradeActivityLog_2020-03-10_UTC.*S2Mar10294935.data. Windows error code 123: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. | 2020-03-10 05:48:02.862 *

I took 2 long trades, one a scratch and the other for +330. Sierra Chart shows both as shorts with one as an 8 tick loser (-80) and the other as an open position, while Rithmic shows them correctly.

Please advise.

Could you contact Top Step Trader and tell them only to include letters and numbers in the account identifier. So they need to change your account ID.

Thank you, but I am now a ping pong ball between SC and Top Step.

Top Step claims no one else using SC and Rithmic has this problem.

I can't imagine anything I did to cause this. I just went from their Step 1 to Step 2 and they added the * to the beginning of my ID. I don't know why I would be the only one they ever did that to, but who knows.

I am frustrated, so forgive me.

It is now 1:44pm my time and I have not heard anything from Top Step. I have emailed them again. It doesn't help to call.

It seems they must not want us to use Sierra Chart, which is a shame.

Yes this does make sense because we told them that. We want to them to remove support for Sierra Chart. We do not want users using Rithmic any longer.

just got a call from Top Step and they say there are many TST traders in the same combine I am in, using SC and Rithmic, and they all have an asterisk in their ID and have no problem.

I am happy to fix whatever I need to on my end if I can only find out what it is.

Still have the issue today and no response from Top Step.

I just talked to Top Step and they say they think there may be an indicator that I use in Sierra that is causing the error message.

Since all that happened was that I got a new ID and immediately began having the problem, I have no way of knowing what indicator could be causing the problem, assuming that IS the problem. I made no changes to my set up when I was given the new ID.

They say they can't help me, since they maintain it's not a Top Step problem and that other clients of theirs who have the same ID, letters - numbers - and asterisk, who use SC and Rithmic don't have the problem. If that's true, then for some reason I am the only one with a problem that no one can identify. I am not a programmer or tech person and couldn't possibly know what to do.
Someone has to tell me what to do.

Please help me. This has been going on for 3 days. It is beyond distracting.

We could potentially implement a solution from our side, but if we then use a replacement character for the file name and it is a character that could then be found in a Trade Account, we then create a new problem. This is why they just need to remove the *.

Incredibly I am still waiting for a resolution, going on 4 days.

I called late this afternoon and a support person said, yes we are aware of the problem, but couldn't provide a fix. He said his manager. James. would contact me. I'm waiting!

Sorry to be a PITA, but I'm really frustrated.

Ok we will just have to translate that character to something valid for the file system. We could use ! but the question is are there other accounts which contain that.

ok, gonna have to quit until someone can figure this out. orders entered now are being rejected for some reason and the order will be a sell and the rejection will state it was a buy???

But nothing has changed with order processing with Rithmic between the version you are running and the latest prerelease.

So the update is only coincidentally resolving the issue in regards to the rejection you were getting.
