I'm switching from TradeStation to Sierra and the one thing that's driving me most crazy is that I can't get my Renko charts to match.

TS has a "Renko+" option that is the only way you can get wicks, and allows for a custom offset. But try as I might I can't get this to match in SC.

Here's a page on Renko+ in TS: http://help.tradestation.com/10_00/eng/tradestationhelp/charting/renko_chart.htm

Anyone know how to match the "Custom Renko" image shown? Can use ES with a 4 tick brick for testing. I've tried every combination of settings with all of the Renko brick types and I can't get bricks that are offset by 25% of their range (1 tick here), have wicks, and without creating some bricks that are greater than 8 ticks in size.

Refer to step 8 here:
Renko Bar Charts: Using Renko Bars (Renko Brick With Wicks:)

And then use Flex Renko bars:

Thanks but I'm already using the Renko Bars with Bricks option and have been exploring Flex Renko exhaustively. I'm running TradeStation and SC side by side and so far cannot make SC match the TS renko bars.

At a bearish reversal for example, TradeStation will have the new down brick's wick extend one tick higher than the previous up brick. But SC at best has the new wick end exactly at the high of the previous brick.

This is the closest I've been able to get and they still are very far apart.

Aha! Found it at last. Had to use one of the so-called "questionable" methods, "plus 1 tick and references the prior close" and at last they are a perfect match as far as I can tell so far.

It appears that the real underlying reason I couldn't get them to match is that I was originally trying to do this on a chart of RTY which is 10 ticks per point. TradeStation allows using fractional point values, such as 0.25 for 1/4 of a point. SC requires the values be in whole ticks. So I could get it to match for ES where the ticks are 4 per point, but not on RTY where it's 10. Oh well, I learned a lot. =)

Hey there,

I ended up going with Flex Renko, New trend bar when range exceeded | New reversal when amount met plus 1 tick and reference prior close, whatever tick size you like but with both offsets set to 75% of the number of ticks (or as close as possible, like 10-7-7 or 4-3-3... I'm daytrading financials so using things like 1 point for short term, 5 points for long term), fill all gaps, and no new bar at session start. This got me nearly a perfect match to what I was using with TradeStation's Renko+.

Hope that helps!
