Hi there,

Is it possible to create something similar to the 'bid and ask difference bars' study based on the output from the Zig Zag study. I know you already offer Zig Zag cumalative volume, which is great. I have attached an image of something similar, I think it would be a very beneficial addition to sierra.

Is it possible to colour the background of the Zig Zag cumalative volume study based on over or under the zero line?

Many Thanks!

The Volume to Accumulate Input with the Zig Zag Cumulative Volume study does support Ask Bid Volume Difference.

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, I am aware of that, I have been using it for quite some time. Is is possible to display it as a bar above and below the zero instead of a histogram? as per the example i attached in my original message.

Many Thanks

It looks like what you are looking for is the Maximum extent of the Bid/Ask Difference over the entire range of a Zig Zag line. This is not something that is directly supported, but you should be able to accomplish what you are trying to do using the Spreadsheet Study and the Zig Zag study itself. Be aware that there is a particular setting in the Zig Zag study to output additional information to the Spreadsheet. Refer to the documentation for this here:
Zig Zag: Additional Output for Spreadsheets

Also, the documentation for the Spredsheet study can be found here:
Using the Spreadsheet Study

It is beyond the scope of Sierra Chart to help put together a complex spreadsheet like this. But you will find some Spreadsheet example formulas here that may help:
Spreadsheet Example Formulas and Usage

In order to get the bars to look like a single large bar across a range of time, you just need to increase the width of the bar. Refer to the following for this:
Chart Studies: Subgraphs Tab >> Line Width

And finally, in terms of coloring bars based on whether they are above or below, you would need to use the Color Bar Based on Alert Condition study. Refer to the following:

This did not take us long, so we went ahead and put together a Study Collection for you that does what you are asking for, with one caveat, it is the most recent Accumulated Volume, not the maximum extent within the range of the Zig Zag, but this is probably what you really wanted anyway.

Refer to the following for how to use a Study Collection:

Hello John,

Yes, that is absolutely fine. Very much appreciated! You guys are fantastic..

When i open the study collection I see this (screenshot link below)

How do I see the bars within the Zig Zag cumalative volume study?

Sorry about that, I forgot to include the Spreadsheet file. Here is another Study Collection that points to the attached Spreadsheet file. Put the Spreadsheet file into the same directory as the Study Collection (typically C:\SierraChart\Data), and when you load the Study Collection it should work.

One thing that we just noticed. Since the Color Bar Based on Alert Condition does not automatically update all the previous bars, but the Spreadsheet Study does, there is coloring that does not update as bars are added. You can manually force this to update by selecting Chart >> Recalculate.

The only way we can think to overcome this, without changing the underlying code, is to add the Chart Recalculation - Periodic to your chart and set it to recalculate at whatever interval you feel will work best. The longer the better.

Hi John, this really does look and work great, It was exactly what I was looking for, thanks very much.

I see what you mean about the colour updating, I will do as you have suggested.

I have attahced a screenshot and was just wondering if it's at all possible to eliminate the black borders on either side of each up or down bar, the width is set to 1 in this example, if i increase the width to 30 the black borders are not there but the colour fills the previous border space which causes significant overlap.

Any chance of something like this being an official study in the future? I think many others could benefit from it!

The only thing you can do to eliminate the black bars is to increase the width as you already found.

This is awesome and a great visual substitute for the zig zag accumulated volume swing text which by study default, text color is unable to be set based on a +/- delta reading at highs/lows (positive delta into lows still shows red text or vice versa, negative delta into highs shows green text). Any plans on making this a default study with additional settings?
