Trading DOM improvement

Hi. The following list contains some improvement proposals for the Sierra Chart Trading DOM. Some of them are essential imo.

1. Recent Bid Volume Bars and Recent Ask Volume Bars

The Volume Bar Width is calculated separately for the Bid and for the Ask side. I think that makes no sense. Lets say the largest Bid volume traded is 25 contracts and the largest Ask volume traded is 500. In this case the width of the Volume Bar with 25 contracts at the Bid side is the same as the Volume Bar with 500 contracts at the Ask side. Because the width is calculated separately.

The improvement would be to calculate the width of the Recent Bid Volume Bars and Recent Ask Volume Bars based on the volume traded on both the Bid and Ask side.

2. Recenter Line and Recenter function

The recenter function recenters the Trading Dom based on the last traded price. At least I think it does. A better way to do it would be to recenter the Trading Dom based on the Ask or Bid price. Lets say I have 3 Trading Doms side by side. I like to watch their relative movement. I recenter all Trading Doms. As the last traded price is used to recenter the Doms and the last traded price is either on the Bid or Ask side the recenter line is not always horizontal throughout all the three Doms.

3. Cumulative Last Size

3.1 The Trade DOM Cumulative Last Size Background should fill out the whole cell. It was changed lately to a larger fill which is better than before but it still does not fill the whole cell.

3.2 The logic how the Cumulative Last Size Background is displayed could be optimized. Currently there is a determination between the Background color of a Bid(e.g. red) or Ask(e.g. green) trade. There is another vendor which does it differently. I would prefer the logic of the Cumulative Last Size background color based on uptick, downtick and same tick. So three different background colors and three different price colors.

The uptick color (e.g. green BG and white text color) is the first traded volume at the ask. After this first traded volume the cumulation of additional volume at the ask is displayed as the same tick color( white BG with black text color). If in this situation the offer gets lifted and the next volume traded is at the Ask side, it would still cumulate as the same tick size (e.g. white BG with black text color). I hope this logic makes sense. I added two pictures which show what I mean. The first picture shows the Uptick logic followed by picture two which displays the cumulation of one more contract coloured in the same tick logic.

Hello SC Team.

Almost DOM Trader wants below features.
Your competitor all has these features. Please consider.

Trade DOM Color ( For easy to recognize best bid and best ask levels. )

Recent Bid Volume Background When Same As Best Bid Price.
Recent Ask Volume Background When Same As Best Ask Price.

Trade DOM Price Scale
( Almost trader does not need whole price digits.)

User defined price scale margin. ( Too wide price scale margin. )
Or users can drag for reduce price scale width. Price scale must be right align.
Or show only last N digits.

Time and Sales

Show only last N digits or right align.( Almost trader does not need whole price digits.)
Show only last N second transaction.(For easy to recognize pace of market.)

+1 for all these changes. Good luck. I've been trying to get them to fix the recenter line for quite a while.

They used to have the Cumulative Last Size working correctly (similar to TT's DOM), but they changed it because a few people complained. Hopefully they can bring this back. Along with the background filling out the entire cell.

Comparing the Volume Bars for Recent bid/ask and Current traded bid/ask relative to what was traded on each side would be a great. Volume bar color options for the current traded bid/ask on each side would be nice too.

+1 for the ability to adjust the price column width.

Hopefully Sierra will take notice. These changes would be great additions for us DOM traders.

We will be looking this over. Some of these items can be easily done and will be done. Others, are more involved and we do not know if they would be done.

We do not understand this one:

Trade DOM Color ( For easy to recognize best bid and best ask levels. )

Recent Bid Volume Background When Same As Best Bid Price.
Recent Ask Volume Background When Same As Best Ask Price.

We have implemented request #1 from post #1 above. It will be in the next release (1782). There is a new option on the Trade >> Chart DOM Settings window for Recent/Current Volume Bars Length Relative to Bid and Ask to control whether it uses the maximum from the individual columns or from both the Bid and Ask. This setting will apply to both the Current Traded Bid/Ask and the Recent Bid/Ask Volume column pairs.

@John - Can you also apply request #1 to the Market Depth Pulling/Stacking and Combined Market Depth Pulling/Stacking?

can alerting be added to DOM column study allowing level cell to be highlighted ( for example change background color of cell at level) if value meets criteria

Hi,

There are two things that could be improved in the CombinedMarketDepthPullingStacking Volume Bars plus the third more general:

1) The Combined Market Depth Pulling/Stacking column combines the data that is displayed in the Bid Market Depth Pulling/Stacking and the Ask Market Depth Pulling/Stacking columns and displays them in a single column without a common scale. Please use a common scale to see a ask volume bar with 7 value plotted as half the width of bid with value 14. Look at the pic for a visual example (red)

2) Negative Values are not plotted therefore no Stacking could be plotted. Please plot also negative numbers

3) The idea of common scale could be applied also to columns Recent Bid Volume with Recent Ask Volume to have a better visual reading than now with indipendent scale for bid and ask. More in general every couple of similar columns (Bid/Ask Size, Current, Recent) should have common scale for each couple or 23 lots on bid will be plotted as width as 13 lots on ask if 13 is the higher ask and this is obviously very misleading. Look at the pic for a visual example (yellow)

thank you very much for considering these improvements

Dingor

I also have to say Dingor in post #16 has very valid points.

The SC Data feed seems very good for pulling stacking, certainly as compared to eg Rithmic, so if Dingor's points were implemented it would be even more practical to use

+1 to post #16

however, it should add an OPTION for this common scale, and not be enforced.

if you look at the jigsaw dom, it's the same where bid size and ask size do not share a common scale. The reason from my experience is that when there are large bids or spoof bid blocks on one side, it will distort both sides if it's a common scale.

So the common scale thing is definitely a preference thing in my opinion - some like it, and some don't.

Pull/stack, will definitely appreciate the common scale.

Bid/Ask size, definitely want to test turning on common scale, which is something i'm not used to yet
