Hi,
Starting last night I haven't been able to load SC's. I didn't do anything last night thinking it would be resolved by this morning. SC's will not load the data onto all the charts and I cannot connect to the live data feed. I've never had anything like this happen before with SC's and really don't know what to do. Can you help?

Thanks...

Run Sierra Chart in Safe Mode:
Sierra Chart - Software Login Instructions: Using Safe Mode

And do not open any Chartbooks. Connect to the data feed with File >> Connect to Data Feed and see if you can connect.

Hi,

Yes, it did connect in safe mode. Maybe I could remove some charts as I have a lot up but they won't load so I can take them off. There were no problems in the live market on Friday and nothing unusual on Saturday while doing some research. What would you suggest I do next?

Thanks...

You might be encountering an out of memory condition. If so, refer to:

Hi,

I did as much as I could in the "Out of Memory Condition" instructions but still it's doing the same thing. I couldn't reduce the "Day's to Load" on a chart as it's not responding to that level that would allow me to change that. I did reduce the number of charts by around 10 (after it fully loaded the charts with data, it's not doing that any longer). Under "Global Settings" I increased the "Number of Records" from 4000 to 15000, the "Intraday Data Storage Time Unit" from 1 Tick to 5 Seconds and the "Max Historical Intraday Days To Download" from 151 to 1000 for Non-Tick and 30 for 1 Tick. This also didn't change anything and in fact I think it loads more charts with the shorter settings. I've also gone to 64-bit version which hasn't changed anything. I do have a CL and ES weekly and monthly charts up that I'd like to take down but can't do it as it won't load the charts with data to that level. Any other ideas as I'm stuck again?

Thanks...

"Number of Records" from 4000 to 15000
Keep the number of stored time and sales records at 4000.

We really need to understand what the problem is more precisely. So some charts are just blank and not displaying anything? This is highly unusual especially if there is not really an out of memory condition which would be next to impossible on the 64-bit version.

So does this happen when there are a lot of charts open?

Are there any out of memory error messages in the Window >>Message Log?

Hi,

When I start the SC's platform I had about 50 charts that I watched, 40 now (10 or so were deleted earlier) and about 18 of these are blank with either a white or black background. No data on them. If I wait around say maybe 15-30 minutes or so, the rest of the charts will fill in with data. Touching anything however has the charts going into the "Not Responding" thing. Although the safe mode works fine anything with charts doesn't. I had pulled up a backup chartbook that loaded OK, but all the symbols had expired and needed to be updated. I actually deleted that chartbook to see if that would free up anything which it didn't. That didn't matter to me anyway as I needed to update the backup. Just now the download of data is completed and as I try to scroll higher on the Message Log it goes into the "Not Responding" thing and freezes and the color of the text goes pale. All of the charts have the green "Historical Download Complete" message present at the moment. If I try to connect to the data feed by clicking "File" on the platform, that too goes into the Not Responding thing. As far as I can read in the Message Log, there is nothing about "out of memory." Some of the final messages on the Message Log are: YMM8 - CBOT 30Min #56 + Error reading record for the update Intraday chart. Error reading records from the file. This is now showing up 9 times. Another is: RBK8-NYMEX Daily #46 Performing a full recalculation because it has been tagged. Chartbook: MyWorkspace, etc.. Hope some of this helps.

Thanks...

This appears to be the problem:
YMM8 - CBOT 30Min #56 + Error reading record for the update Intraday chart. Error reading records from the file.

We recommend deleting that data file as explained here:
Intraday Data Editor: Deleting a Data File

Restart Sierra Chart after deleting the file. If you encounter this error with any other symbol, do the same.

Hi,

That earlier problem was resolved with your final recommendation. Thanks a lot for your help.

If possible I would like to reduce the number of days that are downloaded and/or reduce the load on the PC.

On the Data/Trade Service Settings under "Intraday Data Storage Time Unit," I'm using 1 Tick.
The "Number Of Stored Time and Sales Records" is set at 4000.
The "Max Historical Intraday Days To Download" is set at 151 for Non-Tick Data and 31 for 1 Tick Data. I had the 31 set at 151 before.

After reading through the Data/Trade Service Settings Common Settings I don't think changing the 1 Tick Data reading from 151 to 31 is going to make any difference with the Rithmic data feed. Is this correct and do the settings I noted above look OK? Is there anything I can do to reduce the load on the PC? It is running fine now but just thinking for the future.

Thanks...

Really none of those settings would make any practical difference with the load on the computer.

The settings you are using are fine. This is the relevant help topic for a high CPU load:
