I am not getting the symbol settings (Time Zone, Session Start Time etc) in the DTC client that are showing in the DTC server under ‘Global Symbol Settings’. On the DTC client I have tried ‘Full Reset’, ‘Update From Server’ and also , ‘Connecting’ and ‘Disabling’. The DTC client is connecting to the DTC server and the symbol price data is updating in the DTC client chart. The DTC server service is 'Interactive Brokers [trading]', and the DTC client service is 'DTC - Sub Instance [trading]' An example of a symbol is GBP.USD-CASH-IDEAL PRO and it is the same in both the DTC server and the DTC client. Please help. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2018-02-02 16:45:46

I updated the 'DTC - Sub Instance' to version 1697 The 'DTC server' was already on version 1697. I didnt update it, does it update automatically when DTC is enabled? I disconnected and connected the 'DTC - Sub Instance' I cleared the log. I did a 'Full Reset', symbols seem to clear and reload, but settings are basically clear, and not updating with the settings from DTC server. The settings were correct on the 'DTC - Sub Instance' prior to it being set to be a 'DTC - Sub Instance', so its not just that the settings are not being updated from the 'DTC - Server', at some point the settings were cleared. I have sent the new log to you. I did a minor test and summary is... 'DTC - Sub Instance''Update From Server' defaults one value i had set, but leaves others as i had set them. Does not get values from 'DT server' 'DTC - Sub Instance''Full Reset' defaults all values i had set. Does not get values from 'DT server Test Explanation.... For the symbol GBP.USD-CASH-IDEALPRO on the 'DTC - Sub Instance' , i set the the Time Zone, Session Start Time, Session End Time and Price Display Format to specific values, but different to the 'DTC server' I opened and closed the Symbol settings to make sure it was holding my values, and it did. I did an 'Update From Server' and the Time Zone, Session Start Time, Session End Time stayed as i had set them, but the Display Format changed from the value i had set it to, to what i think is the normal default value, so it changed from the value i set it to, but not to the value that is in the 'DTC server'. I changed the 'DTC - Sub Instance' Display Format to a specific value different to the 'DTC server', the other settings i had set had remained, so i kept them. I did a Full Reset on the 'DTC - Sub Instance' and now lost all the values i had set, but values were all default type values, not the values i have set in the 'DTC -server' |

Based on this last post it sounds like you want to use the Symbol Settings from the server instance in the sub instance. I have the DTC server on one computer and the DTC client on another comptuter. Are the comments under 'Using Same Symbol Settings in New Instances' really only meant for a DTC client created using 'DTC server>>File>>New Instance' and so not applicable to me? BUT perhaps i have misunderstood that Symbol Settings do not get set or updated by default from the DTC Server to the DTC Client? Can i copy the Symbol Settings from the DTC Server somehow to the DTC Client, even if its copying a file from one to the other? The Symbol Settings were correct in the SC Instance before i made it a DTC Client, so making it a client lost the settings it had and reset the Symbol Settings to default. For the particular file and location, refer to:Global Symbol Settings: Making a Backup of Global Symbol Settings When making a copy the file make sure Sierra Chart is not running and when replacing the file on the destination instance, make sure Sierra Chart is not running there either. I have spent quite a while trying to get this to work with no luck. With both server and subinstance closed, i have copied the GlobalSymbolSettings.xml from the server to the subinstance, and when i open the subinstance, the symbols have cleared. That means the symbol settings are cleared as well. Is there just a way to load the symbols and symbol setttings together from the server to the subinstance, so if the current symbol settings in the server are what is wanted, it is then a simple process? |

Thinking about this some more, you really cannot copy the symbol settings through the GlobalSymbolSettings.xml file when the Service is different even if it is the DTC Sub service. It would require you to edit that XML file. We can give you instructions if you want. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users.
