[Locked] - Spreadsheets lose formulas

This is the second time my spreadsheets have lost all their formulas and I'd like to learn why it keeps happening so i can avoid it.

Going forward i will try to save the final product under a different name so as to have a backup (hopefully).

I'm guess the loss occurred when i duplicated the chart or changed the symbol on the chart.

There are two potential reasons here.

If this occurred when you have opened the Spreadsheet or the Chartbook making reference to the Spreadsheet it might have been due to a problem with saving it. If there was an out of memory condition while saving it, that kind of issue is going to be resolved in a week or so.

The other more likely issue has to do with the Formula Source Sheet Number Input:
Spreadsheet Study Inputs: Formula Source Sheet Number

I'm guess the loss occurred when i duplicated the chart or changed the symbol on the chart.
Not sure why it would happen with either of these. But we would have to go through that scenario with the particular Chartbook you have and see.

There is a /Backups folder in your Sierra Charts folder. The scss files might be there.

Yes that is absolutely true. There is a backup of Spreadsheet files in the /Backups subfolder in the folder Sierra Chart is installed to.

I think i figured it out. I may have duplicated this chart to a different CB. When i did, I didn't catch the fact that the newly created chart had the same chart number as the original chart (coincidence). When i opened the second CB and new chart, the spreadsheet now had a new chart to reference. I think this caused the issue. I have now created a second spreadsheet for trading study and newly named spreadsheet for the second chart. They seem to be working fine now. I've also created backups. Thank you all for the support.

Yes this does make sense and this is now explained here:

so it happened again this morning. i lost all the current formulas an alert spreadsheet. i did not duplicate the chart this time. For some reason, it reverted back to a much earlier version of the sheet. i can tell it reverted back because there are only two formulas left in the sheet as opposed to the 6 columns i had working last night when i went to bed.

Also, while running in safe mode, SC locked up. Just sat there with a spinning wheel and a (program is not responding) on the title bar of the main window. I was eventually able to shut it down and restart it.

When i did restart and noticed the spreadhseet issue i tried to us "Save As" to see if i had renamed it as a back up. So i reattached the spreadsheet to the main window, clicked on Save As, and immediately got a "SierraChart.exe has stopped working" error.

This is all while in safe mode. I'm running in safe mode at your suggestion to ferret out another issue on "unhandled exceptions" - which, while running in safe mode, has not occurred.

There is a back up file from yesterday for my spreadsheet. The time stamp puts it a couple of hours before i stopped working, but it would be better than the one i have. i will try to shut down, restart in safe mode, and access the backup file from yesterday.

The backup file from yesterday was completely empty.

i tried loading the backup chartbook. it had the same two formulas as the current version.

i then tried replacing the spreadsheet in the study with the spreadsheet saved yesterday from the backup folder. That spreadsheet was completely blank, no formulas at all.

If this issue is happening when you get these exception errors in the log, even at least one of them, then it is probably related to that indirectly.

Otherwise, from our perspective it is hard for us to comment on this without seeing precisely what is happening and the Spreadsheet Study settings and any interaction you had with Sierra Chart at that time.

And there are backups available for 30 days, so go back further in time. As long as the spreadsheet was properly saved, it should contain what you saw in it at the time.

i agree that its probably connected to the Win10 compatibility issue.

Part of the problem could be related to memory allocation errors when saving and opening spreadsheets due to an out of memory condition.

This potential issue is going to be resolved with a new release coming out the week of December 18.

Most likely the issue has to do with memory allocation errors. This problem will be solved with a new release next week.

Try to minimize the amount of data in Spreadsheets.

Refer to:
Using the Spreadsheet Study: Clearing Old Study and Other Data from Spreadsheets

Back up spreadsheets are available.

We have released version 1670. Test with that version and let us know.

It sounds like there could still be an out of memory condition occurring. This really is the only reasonable explanation because Sierra Chart is very solid and reliable software.

It appears as though some security software on your system is preventing the Rithmic bridge program from running. The first thing we recommend you do is restart the computer.
