Our data provider Barchart is having network connectivity issues today. This has affected the market statistics data feed and is currently affecting NASDAQ market statistics.

Also there are problems with receiving the real-time and historical data at times from the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed.

They have been advised of the problem.

We are working now on resolving the NASDAQ market statistics.

With the US Equities data feed for a period of time there were no bid and ask updates and this is a description of that issue:

Our message to Barchart:
Are you aware that one of the problems that was occurring was that the bid/ask prices for the US equities were not updating but the last trade prices were? This problem did occur today for a period of time, and caused one particular user and I am sure other users, issues.

One of the issues was actually quite serious because this created a problem where a stop order type was selected rather than a limit order for order entry through a trading ladder since what should have been the current bid/ask, was being used as a point of reference for the determination of the order type. I really do not know much about the source data feed you use, but really it is not a good condition when you are transmitting last trade prices but not the bid and ask prices. This kind of condition should never occur.

Their response:

Yes I am aware that bid/ask was off for Equities. While troubleshooting the issues today, equities bid/ask data was turned off.

- it will not go off again.

From Barchart:

We had a telecom outage, which sparked a denial of service bug which effected many of our services today. We have isolated and resolved the issue and will be fixing the bug with a hot fix tomorrow once we have fully tested the solution.

We also want to comment, on our long-standing complaint about the policies of exchanges charging extreme amounts of money for market data and tightly controlling market data.

The whole reason we got hurt by this problem at Barchart yesterday is precisely because Barchart is the vendor of record. Everything runs on their network and under their control. We cannot do this ourselves because it is extremely cost ineffective and it would raise the cost of providing the services to an extremely unreasonable amount because of extremely high exchange fees.

So you can see, how when we say time and time again how the exchange policies reduce the reliability of data delivery, this is exactly an excellent example. The entire mess that we see with market data and all of the associated confusion and difficulty we deal with every day is a manifestation of these policies.
